Referee Advisor – Position Description

The Broadmeadows Basketball Association (BBA) maintains a commitment to our strategic direction and development of the Association. The BBA recognises that it is imperative to maintain both the quality and quantity of its ‘Referees’. The Association is dedicated to ensuring that the ‘Referees’ are supported, evaluated, have access to ongoing training/information and are given every opportunity to further their careers, by officiating at the highest possible level.

The Referee Advisors position can be a significant educational tool in the development of the Referee Program, mentoring for all current Referees, recruitment of potential new Referees and link between the Referees, Players and Committees. _________________________________________________________________

The Referees Advisor should meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a current Level ‘A’1 or higher rating.
  • Hold a Level 1 or higher Referee Coach, National accreditation.
  • Knowledge of the VBRA Accreditation Policy.
  • Conversant with the latest ‘Level 0’ and ‘Level 1’ course material.
  • A sound knowledge of the current rules and regulations.
  • Be a financial member of the VBRA.
  • Have sound communication and interpersonal skills, (including teaching and mentoring techniques).

The Referees Advisors Position will undertake the following ongoing Roles:

  • Coach Referees and prepare 2 written evaluations for each Referee per calendar year.
  • Recruit potential Referees and run a minimum of 2 ‘Level 0’ Referee courses per calendar year.
  • Run ‘Level 1’ Referee courses as required.
  • Prepare 2 written evaluations, on all accredited Referees per calendar year.
  • Update all Referee records and grading.
  • Attend ongoing VBRA Broadmeadows Branch meetings.
  • Attend BBA Committee meetings bi-monthly and present Referee Advisors report.
  • Be in attendance at the Stadium in Referees Advisor position, (as negotiated).
  • Respond appropriately to all ‘written’ suggestions and complaints regarding Referees.
  • Attend lectures, information sessions and training conducted by Basketball Victoria or VBRA.
  • Identify and motivate VBRA Broadmeadow Branch Referees to officiate at the highest possible/elite levels.

Successful appointment to position will be contracted for a 12month period with the opportunity to extend contract, if above criteria has been met at high standard.
