CLASSIC SELECTION

NATIONAL JUNIOR CLASSIC SELECTION

Once the VJBL has received all of the nominations for the National Junior Classic, the Classic Selection Committee will make the final decision on the teams they believe will be competitive and should attend     the Classic.

The Classic is a VJBL invitational tournament and Classic Selection Committee will have the final ruling on all entries. The Classic Committee holds the right to use their discretion in exceptional circumstancesthroughout this qualifying process.

All teams that the Classic Committee select will be asked to provide team lists to make sure that the teams attending will be the same as the teams who qualified for selection.

No further correspondence will be entered into once the VJBL Classic Committee has selected the 16 teams based on the following criteria which will be reviewed annually.

3.1       Victorian Team Selection

The Victorian teams shall be ranked on their performance in the VJBL Competition.

The top 4 teams in each VC pool, at the end of Round 9 shall qualify however if teams are on equal points in their pool then the game(s) between the teams involved will be used to determine the finalplaces. (Head to Head)

In the event that the total points scored and conceded are the same in the games between the two/ormore teams, the classification will be determined by points difference taking into account the results of     all the games played in the first 9 rounds.

- If these two teams have not played each other during those periods achallenge game will be scheduled to determine the final place.

- There will be one place allocated to the Country Championship winner subject to the following Country qualifying criteria

  • The entire team that won the Country Championships must be nominated and participate in the tournament. If not, the team must provide evidence to the Classic committee that they will still be competitive in the tournament without the nominated players.
  • If the team participates in VC they must qualify through VC or they will not be accepted.
  • If the team participates in VJL or lower they will not be accepted.

3.2       Interstate Selection

The VJBL Classic Committee will select a maximum of 8 interstate teams to compete in the Classic.

If teams nominate from the Northern Territory, Queensland, Tasmania or Western Australia, only one team will be accepted. This team must be in the top two of their current competition at the time of selection.

  • A.C.T will be allocated one position for Basketball ACT if they wish to nominate.
  • New South Wales and South Australia will be required to split the remaining number of available positions.
  • Teams from New South Wales should be selected after the halfway point of their current competition however we will only take teams that are in the top four at that time.
  • Teams from South Australia are to be selected from their State Championships, however we will only take teams that are in the top four at that time.
  • If there is not a full quota of interstate teams following the above formula, then an additional VJBL teams will be invited.

3.3       Overseas Entry

Should an overseas team(s) express an interest in participating in the tournament then if their entry isaccepted then the interstate quota will be reduced by that number.
