On Saturday 15 December, MGTA played host to Portland Touch Association at Vansittart Park for the first Border Challenge for many years.
2 teams from MGTA & 2 from Portland represented their respective associations. Each team played each other once followed by exhibition-style games including men's & women's open.
Mt Gambier's Tiki Roos were undefeated all day, whilst the second Mt G team consisted of a mix of representives from various local sides & had 2 losses & a draw in some close & competitive games.
Men's Open- MGTA 9 d PTA 6 in a very physical game whilst in the women's open MGTA d PTA 3-nil in a clever game of skill. MGTA won the Border Challenge outright from PTA.
WELL DONE Mount Gambier!
Congrats to Matt Pilven, Ben Loef & Thomas Gibbs who completed their Level 1 Referee Course also.
Special thanks to Sean Fulton for his assistance & commitment to the event - we couldn't have done it without your guidance. Thanks to the players & referees (namely John Martin-Brown) who gave up their afternoon to participate - I know you all got a lot out of it & you're better players because of it. Thanks also to the timers/canteen helpers - Gaye Watson, Dani Kettle, Leanne Wallace, Cathy Ashby & Sam Galpin - your help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks also to Portland for travelling over for the day & also to James Avemarg from Touch SA & David & Ali from Touch Vic. These events can not go ahead without the full support of our state offices & we appreciate these guys giving up their weekends to support our affiliate needs.
