Since its inception in 2002 Aussie Hoops has provided a national introductory basketball program for primary school aged children.  Research undertaken confirms that the “Aussie Hoops” brand is well recognized and extremely popular in the local community.

The essence of the Aussie Hoops program is FUN and the program uses a “game sense” approach, letting children experience the skills of basketball while playing a series of games.  Aussie Hoops is for boys and girls of ALL abilities between the ages of 5 and 12 years.  It can be played all year round, indoors or outdoors and many of the activities don’t even require a hoop!

Since 2002 over 400 000 children have participated in Aussie Hoops programs in schools and local associations.  Many coaches and parents have been involved in delivering the program and we’ve now updated the program based on their experiences. 

Aussie Hoops is about children having FUN and experiencing basketball skills. The Aussie Hoops program has a range of resources to help teachers, coaches and parents run the program.  The aim of the program is for kids to:

• Have FUN;

• Learn new basketball skills;

• Spend time with old and new friends;

• Be active and safe.

How is Aussie Hoops Delivered?

An association can choose to run Aussie Hoops at a School or in a Stadium. Running Aussie Hoops in Schools is a great way to reach the largest market because every child goes to school. The Aussie Hoops in School Programs can be held during school time or after school. The Aussie Hoops in Stadium Program can be held after school on weekdays or on weekend mornings.

There are a plenty of activities you can do, handy session plans and activity cards mean that coaches, parents or even teenagers can easily run a session.  

Children develop their basketball and general motor skills through the “Fun Sense” approach of modified drills and games.  They are having so much fun they don’t even realise they are learning!
