2014-15 Junior Magic Tryout Dates

Junior Magic Tryouts will be held for all Junior Boys and Girls teams Under 12s to Under 20s on

Sunday October 5th, 12th and 19th 2014

At Boroondara Sports Complex, Belmore Road North Balwyn

Players will also be required for Intra Club Practice Matches on Friday October 10th, 17th and 24th  as part of the tryout process. These sessions are used to evaluate players in match type situations.

Practice games against Eltham and Nunawading will form part of the team selection process during tryouts.

Players who attend trials for Magic are encouraged to participate in the Hawthorn Basketball Association domestic competition. 

New players please bring proof of age to your first session. (Birth certificate or passport).

Parents Briefing

Kelly Breazeale – Director of Coaching will be holding an important briefing for all parents at the commencement of tryout sessions on Sunday 5 October and Sunday 12 October (in the event you have missed the first tryout). Parents must attend this meeting as it will outline the tryout and selection process and what can be expected.   

• Players need to attend all tryouts sessions. We are giving plenty of notice this season to players and parents.
• If you are unable to make a tryout you need to inform the relevant Boys or Girls Coordinator otherwise we will assume that you no longer want to play for Magic.
• All positions are considered open and vacant. If you have played the 2013 - 2014 season, this does not automatically grant you a spot in a team for the following 2014 - 2015 season.
• On the first tryout day there will be an information session for parents to ask questions about the program and gather all necessary information.
• Players should keep coming until you are told to no longer attend.
• Age Group Head Coaches and team coaches will be announced closer to the tryout dates.
• Coaches can occasionally make adjustments to final team selections at the conclusion of Grading phase 1 2014 and the commencement of the Grading phase 2 in 2015. (This is a very rare occurance.)
• Before committing to the Magic program, players and parents need to understand the committment and expectation of players in our program.

Players are expected to be available for all tryout sessions on Sundays, Friday nights and the Sunday Nunawading game.

The tryout process is a highly competitive process and this year we are expecting a high number of existing and new players to tryout. Players will be advised by email if they are not successful and won’t be required at the next session. Please ensure you give an accurate email address in the registration process.

A Letter of Offer will be emailed to players who are successful and receive a place on a team.
