Mount Gambier Basketballers in S.A. Under 20 Teams

Three Mount Gambier basketballers have been selected in the 2015 South Australian Under 20 teams to play in the Australian Junior Basketball Championships in Dandenong, Victoria from February 22nd to 28th. They are current Lakers players Kane deWit, Monjath Makoi and former Laker, Georgia Green, now living in Adelaide and playing for Eastern Mavericks.more

“WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN” CBL SEASON FOR LAKERS’ WOMEN

An air of promise and expectation surrounded the Lakers’ Women as they prepared for the 2014/15 CBL season last October. Team-mates and Coach, Trevor Semmens, were thrilled that former WNBL player Melissa Russell had decided to suit up, thus giving the team depth in experience, leadership and talent in quest for the title.more

LAKERS MEN 2015 COUNTRY CHAMPIONS

The Lakers Men recovered from a dismal first day at the 2015 SA Country Basketball Senior Championships to finish strongly and win the A Grade Grand Final over last year’s grand finalist, Murray Bridge 54-46. It was a “bitter sweet win” after Murray Bridge dumped the Lakers out of the finals last year.more

BUSY BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT SEASON

Basketball Mount Gambier Junior and Senior representative teams are lining up to a busy next few weeks, participating in Tournaments.

The Senior Men and Women Lakers’ teams travel to Adelaide this weekend to compete in the annual SA Country Basketball Senior Championships. While overall numbers are low in terms of nominations, the high quality of players has been maintained.more

AUSTRALIAN COUNTRY CUP SUCCESS

The SA Country Junior Basketball contingent which competed in the 2015 Australian Country Basketball Cup came home with the Under 18 Women’s title and the Beth Serle Cup. Junior Lakers first year players, Tenille Gray and Brenna McKay were members of the winning Sharks team, which defeated the Vic. Settlers 54-53. Glenn Mathieson of Naracoorte coached the team.more

JUNIOR LAKERS INVOLVED IN CUP OPENING CEREMONY

Three Junior Lakers basketballers were involved in the Australian Country Basketball Junior Cup Opening Ceremony conducted at Wodonga last Monday prior to the first round of matches of the Cup.more

SPORTING SCHOLARSHIP TO JOLLEY

Talented sportswoman, Danika Jolley of Mount Gambier, has been awarded a Wendt Ey Sporting Scholarship to assist her in her commitment to gain the required qualifications and experience to achieve elite standards in basketball officiating.more

JUNIOR LAKERS AWARDED SPORTING SCHOLARSHIPS

Six Mount Gambier junior basketballers, who will represent SA Country at the Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup, have been awarded City of Mount Gambier Junior Sports Assistance Fund scholarships. These Scholarships are an initiative of the City of Mount Gambier & District of Grant Councils to provide financial assistance to junior sportspersons, who have been chosen to represent the State.more
