Be Active Western Stars

Our defending champions enter 2014 with the core of the playing group unchanged. It will be interesting to see how they adapt with the loss of Amanda Nott who had provided solid high point support in the previous few seasons.

While other teams sometimes struggle for quality low point players, the Stars boast two of the best in the game in Clare Nott and Sarah Vinci. They’ll be vital to help the team’s two new able bodied players up and down the floor.

Stacks Goudkamp Bears

Great to see an injection of new players into the Bears in 2014. Our 2013 runners up will carry two rookies and two juniors into the new season as they hope to go one better in 2014.

They do lose Mari Amimoto but have a more than capable replacement in Georgia Munro-Cook. I think there will be a few teams and national selectors very impressed how Georgia has continued to develop over the offseason.

Victoria

Victoria were one of the league’s dominant teams in 2013, and have only added to their already impressive roster in 2014. Whether she suits up or not remains to be seen but former Glider Tina Mckenzie is on Victoria’s list and would be a very handy inclusion into the team.

It will also be interesting to see how Laura Basseggio adapts to the WNWBL. Laura is a young 4.5 that was a standout for the Victorian team in the Kevin Coombs Cup earlier this year.

Sydney Uni Flames

The Sydney Uni Flames have a really great mix of youth and experience. Sarah Stewart and Katie Hill will lead the team but is great to see some of their younger players return in 2014. Hannah Dodd will once again spend some time off her horse and in a basketball chair for the Flames in 2014 and Jess Cronje who was ultra-impressive at the Kevin Coombs Cup earlier this year will also be pressing her claims for more court time this season.

Minecraft Comets

Expect the Minecraft Comets to push right up into contention in 2014. They’ve managed to secure the services of Mari Amimoto, a prolific scorer in the WNWBL, as well some great mid and low point support in Melanie Hall and Anthea Castelli.

The team from Queensland may have struggled since re-entering the league a few seasons ago but don’t expect that to be the case this season.
