*Media Release* - New Referees Boss In Town

Western Post Basketball Association is proud to announce the appointment of Jason Geritz and Colin Stephens as its new Referees Advisers.

Jason will head up the Referees Advisers role, with Colin in support as his assistant. Both come to Western Port with a wealth of experience and knowledge, as well as a great understanding of Western Port’s referees program.

General Manager, Marc Pirrotta, is thrilled to have both on board, saying “I have known Jason and Colin for many years and both have a great reputation within the basketball community. We are indeed very fortunate to have them come on board.”

“It’s no secret that we have struggled with our referees program over the last 2 years for a variety of reasons. But it has been a priority to ensure that we appoint the right people to the position of Referees Adviser. Jason and Colin bring a strong understanding of how to approach the many challenges they will face over the coming 12 months and that’s what made them the obvious choice for the roles.”

Both Jason & Colin are excited to be joining the Western Port family and working with the association to rebuild its referees program, with Jason saying “The club has offered plenty of support to us, with enthusiasm reaching through all levels, from players and coaches to the committee and the general manager.”

When asked about the short and long term goals, Jason showed he has a clear vision of the referees program, saying “In the short term building respect for all referees in what is always a difficult task. In the longer term develop a referees program that is seen as model for other associations to follow, and one that provides referees regularly attending championships.”

Colin’s thoughts on Western Port Basketball and its people are very positive adding “They are a very proactive club that wants the best for their domestic and representative players and their referees. No is not a word you hear much of but more let's see how we can get what you want to work.”

With the club having built its domestic competition up over the last 18 months to the largest numbers in its history, they also intend on building a stronger relationship with the clubs many domestic and junior rep coaches and players, including attending various coaches and players clinics being held at Western Port over the coming months.

Both are tasked with building the referee numbers over the coming 12 months, as well as improving the standard of officiating throughout the domestic competition and junior rep home games.

Western Port Basketball used to boast having one of the strongest referees program in country Victoria and Jason and Colin intend on building the clubs reputation back to those lofty heights. It will take a lot of work and determination, but Western Port Basketball believe they have found the right people to achieve this
