The Evolution of Affiliates Cup for 2012

The Evolution of Affiliates Cup for 2012

Affiliates Cup 2012 has a different format from previous years as there are no Men’s and Women’s Open divisions and so for this reason the main trophy will not be in play. After this tournament we will take feedback from Affiliates in form of a survey to find out what will work best moving forward.

TFV is trying to get more Affiliates involved in sending down teams and has hence reduced the amount of divisions to compete in; TFV have gone for an all mixed competition as only 3 out of 17 Affiliates (outside of the TFV run comps) run Men's or Women's competitions.

To encourage Affiliates that have a smaller pool to choose from we are giving you the chance to put your best team into either the Championship or Social division depending on their skill level. In the past affiliates needed to enter an Open team before any Social teams were able to enter. Affiliates can enter as many teams as they want in any division noting that the Social division has limit of 2 VT League players.

TFV also appreciates that there are a wealth of good juniors running around in country competitions that don’t always get the chance to play or showcase their skills so we have created the mixed U20 division. This division will be a good chance for any of those kids interested in playing in the National Touch League in March to come down and be seen by selectors and coaches.

Referee Information

Another reason TFV has chosen not to go for Men’s divisions this year is due to a number of our experienced referees attending New South Wales State Cup. New South Wales State Cup was known about when setting the date for the event but is usually run in the first weekend of December. This year NSWTA have changed it to the second weekend this year which will conflict with our tournament.

In light of this TFV has opened the door for players to come and be referees as well as play on the basis that they do minimum of 2 games. Non-Playing Referees will be paid a flat rate of $80 for minimum 6 games. If Affiliates don’t have referees we will be endeavouring to have a pool of referees available at our office.

Level 0 Referees can be assessed to Level 1 at the tournament however all no further gradings will be available due to our qualified assessors attending NSW State Cup.

In summary, this years event is not a traditional Affiliates Cup however it is still an event that we want Affiliates to be involved in. By reducing divisions to mixed we want to simplify the format and get more of the touch community involved in an event that usually wouldn’t be involved. Also with most affiliates running predominately mixed competitions, we are hoping that more park level social teams will enter the event, rather than representative side.

More information can be found in the Terms and Conditions for the event which is attached below.
