SLAMMERS NEWS: 2016-17
GSABA JDO POSITION
The Junior Development Officer Position has been split into two areas now. We are seeking a Girls Junior Development Officer and a Boys Junior Development Officer.
Remuneration will be $2000 a year for each position.
Duties involve: Lower age junior age group (12/14) and higher age junior age group (16/18) conduct separate trainings once a week during the Winter Season.
_ Email the Slammers coaches seeking players that have DNSP potential.
- Oversee Slammers Try-outs and make a recommendation to GSABA Management the appointment of the Slammers Coaches.
- Run Trainings in the Christmas Holidays, three times a week for the State Country Players.
- A key figure in the co-ordination of the Slammers Carnival
- The JDO is an official GSABA Management position. Attend Monthly GSABA Management meetings, held the seond Monday of the month.

2016 SENIOR WOMENS DIVISION 1 TEAM

SENIOR WOMENS SA STATE COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS 2016
GSABA Management has decided there will only be one team nominated and it will a Women's Division 1 team. There will 8 players selected with two reserves.
There is enough Adult players to select a team from so no Slammers Junior Players (U18s) will be selected as they have their own SA State Country Championships in March.
As we have an increase in interest by the women, Slammers Senior Guidelines will be drawn up for 2017 Championships and this will include criteria about multiple teams.
Thanks to all the players who attended the try-outs and the Clubs have been forwarded a Club Update about the reason for this decision.
GSABA CARNIVAL 2015
The GSABA Carnival on 5th & 6th December2015 has been cancelled due to HOT WEALTHER POLICY.
SENIOR SA STATE COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS
There will be no Slammers Senior Mens nominated for the Senior State Country Championships 2016 due to insufficient try-out numbers.
GSABA Management will make a decision at their December Meeting on how many teams will be nominated for the Women. Slammers Junior Players (U18's) will not be selected if we have enough Adult players. Juniors have their own State Country Championships in March 2016.

GSABA SLAMMERS SENIOR TRY-OUTS
Slammers Senior Try-Outs are being held on Sunday November 22nd and November 29th 2015. Time: 7 -8 pm for both teams.
Slammers selection process: Slammers Junior Players (Under 18's) will only be considered if we don't have enough Adult players. REASON: Slammers Junior Players already have an opportunity to play in the Junior SA Country State Championships in March.

DNSP TRAININGS
The GSABA has to supply DNSP trainings each year. This is available to the Slammers players and is optional but we encourage players to attend. Non attendance at these sessions doesn't effect Slammers selection.

SLAMMERS FORMAT CHANGES
Changes to the format:
- Not compulsory to compete in midweek competition. Coaches to decide. (You may wish to train instead and play more carnivals).
- Millicent and Great Southern are compulsory carnivals.
- Murray Bridge and Mt Gambier and Riverland are optional.
The appointed coach must be able to attend the carnival, teams will not be allowed to attend a carnival without their appointed coach, unless permission is given by GSABA Management.

GSABA SLAMMERS UNDER 16 BOYS RUNNERS UPS 2015
The Slammers Under 16 Boys recorded our best result at the SA Country Junior Championships finishing a gallant second to Murray Bridge in a high class final.

GSABA SA COUNTRY SLAMMERS SENIOR WOMENS TEAM 2015
The Senior Womens claimed their first ever Womens A grade titile and are SA State Country Champions after going through the minor round undefeated winning 6 games and defeating Mt Gambier in the Grand Final 44 -39.
Sarah White played a fantastic game in the Grand Final and won the MVP in Grand Final.
The whole team played well, all players played their roles well and all stood up when they were required to do so.
The team played a great brand of basketball and the aggressive defence and the strong work rate in defence led to great team defence which gave them an edge all carnival.
Congratulations to the Senior Womens team.

JOHN SPOONER AWARD: 1st - 19 wins
MTGAMBIER CARNIVAL 2014
We sent 4 teams to Mt Gambier. The Under 12 Boys Division 1 and Division 2 Boys, Under 14 Boys Division 2 and Under 16 Girls Division 2. The Under 12 Boys Division 2 won a couple of games but were defeated in the semi-final. The Under 12 Boys Division 1 defeated Hamiliton but struggled against the other taller opponents. The Under 16 Girls Division 2 played in Division 1 and aquiitted themselves well and ran Strathalbyn to 2 points but struggled against the stronger Division 1 teams.
All teams showed improvement, competed well and gained good experience.
MILLICENT CARNIVAL 2014
We sent 12 teams to the carnival and all teams performed well with most teams making the semi's. We won 2 titles, the Under 14 Girls Div 1 went through undefeated and the Under 16 Girls Division 2. The Under 16 Boys Div 1, Under 16 Girls Div 1 and the Under 18 Girls Div 1 lost the grand final. Congratulations to the winners and the grand finalists and well done to all the teams who played well.
