Lady Reds v Brisbane Roar Match Preview

The Adelaide United Lady Reds will look to ring in the New Year with a win against Brisbane Roar at the Adelaide Shores on Sunday afternoon.

Coming off the back of a 5-1 victory over Newcastle in round 10, the Lady Reds will look to build on their dominant display to secure a maiden finals campaign for the club.

Adelaide defender Alex Gummer said the win was key in building momentum as the season draws to close.

“Coming off a few performances that were sub-par, we knew we had to go out there and have a great performance, so it was great to have a good score line and give the goal difference a boost.

“Even though we got a great result, we still have a lot of areas to improve on, so we are hoping to improve on our last performance and fine tune some details.

“Hopefully we’ll get some good results and secure finals.”

With only four points separating fourth placed Adelaide and eighth placed Perth Glory, and with three rounds to go in the regular season, Gummer said every game from this point onwards was vital for a postseason berth.

“Obviously every game from here on in is a massive game.

“Brisbane are coming off of a solid performance against Melbourne City which will give them confidence, and they are also vying for a finals spot so it’s really a six point game.

“We need to get maximum points here to have a finals spot in our own hands.”

Gummer said she was anticipating a tough battle right across the 90 minutes.

“It’s going to be a really tough game.

“Brisbane has a lot of quality players including a few Matildas and quality internationals, so we are expecting a battle all over the park.”

Brisbane currently sits in seventh position on 9 points, three points behind the Lady Reds.
