Victoria is the first team to take a semi-final berth on day 4 of the Australian Under 20 and Ivor Burge Basketball Championships being held at Launceston’s Elphin Sports Centre.


The Victorian women’s side comfortably defeated Tasmania in the first of the quarter-finals and can now sit back and watch as South Australia and ACT, Queensland and Western Australia and New South Wales and New Zealand fight it out for the remaining three women’s semi-finals places later in the day.


The Tasmanian under 20 men’s side also suffered at the hands of Victoria, losing 44-102 in the last of its preliminary round games while the Tasmanian Ivor Burge women’s team was outclassed by New South Wales Country, going down 23-121 in its preliminary round game.


For the Tasmanian under 20 women, Irini Alexiou and Mickaela Dickson played virtually lone hands, Alexiou finishing with 19 points and Dickson with five rebounds to go with her nine points.


In the Tasmanian under 20 men’s game, Matt Brazendale, Nick Laycock and Matt Young shared the scoring with 12, 10 and eight points respectively while Christine Maynard led the way for the Ivor Burge women with 11 points, eight rebounds and five blocks.
