Interested in a career as an Assistant Referee, or an introduction to State League football from the line? Have you considered refereeing in your local Branch, and developing your skills as an Assitant Referee on NPL as well? It's the perfect stepping stone!

There are a few things you need to consider before applying, though.

First and foremost you MUST be an experienced, currently qualified Match Official (Referee, Assessor or Instructor) to join our Branch.

That means you will have a current FFA number and up-to-date accreditation.

Sorry, but we do not run courses for new match officials - have a look at the Football NSW website under Referees for more information!

Being an experienced match official is important because the level of football which we service requires this experience. We simply do not have access to grassroots matches for new referees!

You must be already capable of officiating on this level of football - It's just not safe for us to put you on a game out of your depth!

Loosely translated this means that you should be doing:

  • Premier League, AA/1 or AA/2 in your local Branch; or
  • U18 and U16 NPL

If you are a keen and competent AR then why not join as an AR and learn a few things from the line? Dont forget to keep helping your local Branch though - they need referees too!

If you are unsure if you are ready, you should talk to your Branch Coach who will be able to advise you whether you are ready for NPL football.
