Jeffries First Piece of the Puzzle for Caps

Ryan Jeffries will join the Brisbane Capitals QBL program as the first signing made by new coach Geoff Tarrant.

The athletic and explosive swingmen who has an arsenal that many players only hope for will look to showcase his skills this year and feels that under Coach Tarrant he will be able to take his game to whole new level “I think with the style of play the team is going to have this year, it will give me a lot more confidence to create in all areas on the court” Jeffries said.

Last year under NBL Sydney Kings Coach Shane Heal, Jeffries was able to show that he is quite versatile and play multiple positions something which has served him well throughout his QBL career with averages of 10.9 points on 46.96% from the field, 4.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists per outing in 2012.

The 26-year old is excited to be a part of the club which is very much entrenched in basketball folk law as he noted “I’ve always been impressed with Brisbane as a club and how they compete, there’s a lot of local talent, it’s great to be a part of that”.

He believes that the Caps can enhance that winning culture and Coach Tarrant has the right philosophies to enable that to happen “one of the reasons I’ve moved over to Brisbane is I think with Geoff’s hard-nosed approach to the game…that he knows how to build a winning culture and that’s obviously very important in getting to the Championship Game”.

He also understands that his role will be greater this year and is very much looking forward to taking on that challenge “he (Coach Geoff Tarrant) sees me as a scorer and I’ve always wanted to be put in a position to be a bit more aggressive on the offensive end.”

Jeffries could be one of the crucial pieces to the puzzle; his ability to get hot quickly from range as well as slash through defences at speed, has drawn significant attention from opposing coaches. And those same abilities could potentially lead to an NBL call up should the Bullets come back to Brisbane “with the Bullets comeback in the making it’s extra incentive to work even harder to achieve my goals of making the NBL” Jeffries said when asked about his goals for the future.

With more signings to be announced in the next couple of weeks and a number of the young local talent looking to come back and get back to the finals there is a lot of excitement in the air at Brisbane and securing the services of one Ryan Jeffries has only added to that.
