VJBL Wrap Grading Phase One Round 3

Geelong Supercats Junior Representative Results

Grading Phase 1

Pool 1

Under 18 Boys

Geelong Supercats (1) 27 lost to Kilsyth (1) 44

Best Players: Not Supplied

Coach’s Comment: With a match ending draw against Nunawading last week, a season ending injury sustained by young gun and touted future Supercat Ashish Motiani and the convergence on the USA by George Blagojevic, along with Taylor Dow, Zane Micallef and Tom Doedee, all representing Country Vic, there was some welcoming news. Hot off his Gold Medal-winning performance representing Australia at the Oceania Championships, Jacob Pupavac re-joined us. Due to the team depletion we welcomed back into a Supercat uniform Xavier McKeegan and James Syddall to take on the always tough Kilsyth Cobras. As expected, Kilsyth came out strong and opened up an early lead that proved the difference at the end. We need to toughen up and jump on every chance presented from here on. Our season is now in the hands of the VJBL gods and fingers crossed, we get the much wanted ‘wild card’ entry into the next round. Hopefully with a full strength team to reclaim a top 10 position in the VJBL where we belong.

Pool 4

Under 16 Boys

Geelong Supercats (2) 55 def. Werribee (2) 34

Best Players: A. Stone, A. Sutej, M. Kos

Coach’s Comment: “Coming into the game after a long wait after double overtime in an earlier game in the night, we were sluggish, allowing Werribee to jump to a small lead.  A few quick defensive changes which increased defensive intensity and created good offensive transition saw the gap reduce and by half-time we were controlling the game.  Guards were in a more commanding position this week, identifying good opportunities for penetration and outside scoring, with everyone in the team making a contribution to the scoring effort equally.  Still some work to do in our half-court game, both in defence and offence, however, a solid win.”

Geelong Supercats (2) 33 def. Broadmeadows (2) 27

Coach’s Comment: “As the game progressed we created better scoring opportunities that we were able to convert. After trailing for most of the first half, we were rewarded with a win as a result of sticking to the game plan of tough defence and rebounding intensity.
