All's quiet on basketball front

All competitions conducted by Taree Basketball at Saxby’s Stadium are presently in recess for the Spring school holidays.

When games resume on Tuesday, 09 October 2012, the high school students will be back in action from 4.20pm with the women to hit the court from 6.00pm followed on Saturday, 13 October 2012, by the popular primary school based competition for children in school years 4, 5 and 6 which is set to fire up at 9.30am for the first week of play.

This date is the first Saturday after the school holidays and although it doesn’t provide a lot of time for teams to be put together, it does appear from the recent free clinic held at Saxby’s Stadium, that many children are eager to join the fun and games.

Team registration forms are required by Thursday, 11 October 2012, and may be submitted by facsimile 6552 7127, telephone 6551 7456 or email tareebasketball@hotmail.com

The weekly cost to play has been set at $5.00 per player and there is an individual registration fee of $20.00 to cover the competition.

On the junior representative scene, coaching and refereeing have been made a priority with courses to be conducted to increase the accredited numbers in these two important areas of the game. The first step to achieve that result is a free coaching course which will be conducted at Saxby’s Stadium on Saturday, 13 October from 4.00pm. Former NSW Director of Coaching and NITP Head Coach, Rex Nottage, will be the presenter of the course and it will be a great experience for all current coaches and anyone interested in wanting to become a coach.

A winner of the Basketball Australia Coach of the Year in 1998 and The Australian Sports Medal 2000, Rex has forged a reputation as one of the premier coaches in the nation during his time in the SEABL and Waratah Championship League and the coaching course at Saxby’s Stadium presents a wonderful opportunity for basketball fans to learn from one of the best in the business.

Saxby’s Stadium is the home of Taree Basketball and details about all things basketball may be obtained on the telephone at (02) 6551 7456, by email tareebasketball@hotmail.com or on the net at www.taree.basketball.net.au
