Women's basketball looking good for New Year

Team numbers for the upcoming Women’s Basketball competitions on Tuesday nights at Saxby’s Stadium look to be holding well compared to the 2012 figures following the first week of trial games played earlier this week.

Trial games will continue on Tuesday, 12 February 2013 to allow teams sufficient time to finalise their playing rosters.

Sunne Printing, MRD Electrical and two new teams, Young Guns and The Great Lakers, made up of talented teenagers look set to fill the division one ranks while division two appears likely to have a mixture of new and returning teams taking the court each week in a competition which is sure to provide close and exciting basketball throughout the first half of the year. The returning teams are Howard Funerals, Wade Engineering, Tinonee Termites, Pink Ladies and All Stars with Wing Nuts and Coastal First Aid providing a couple of new rosters.

High school numbers were encouraging for the first night and players wishing to join the competition are reminded Saxby’s Stadium opens for individual practice at 4.00pm each Tuesday with games getting under way at 4.20pm.

All players involved in competitions conducted by Taree Basketball need to hold a current NSW Basketball annual registration with the costs being maintained at last year’s levels, which are $70.00 for players turning 18 or over in 2013 or $60.00 for high school students.

Basketball for men fires up tonight after several weeks of pick up games at Saxby’s Stadium over the Christmas/New Year period and games will be played at 6.00pm and 7.00pm each Friday night with teams required to do duty either before or after they play to ensure the smooth running of the competition.

Primary school based basketball for children in years 4, 5 and 6 starts tomorrow morning with strong nominations coming from Wingham Public, Taree West and St Josephs, Taree. All children need to be at Saxby’s Stadium at 9.20am to complete registration requirements before games commence at 9.30am.

The registration fee for term one is $20.00 with the individual weekly playing fee set at $5.00.

Basketball, everyone’s game, is played at Saxby’s Stadium and further information about the junior, women’s and men’s competitions may be obtained by calling 6551 7456, by jumping on the website at www.taree.basketball.net.au or tracking down Taree Tornadoes on Facebook.
