Trials for women's basketball done and dusted
Teams involved in women’s basketball on Tuesday nights at Saxby’s Stadium will play their first round games on Tuesday 19 February 2013 following two weeks of trials. There are no great surprises with teams being divided into two divisions with the premier division seeing regulars Sunne Printing and MRD Electrical being joined by a new look, Coastal First Aid, and new team, Young Guns, made up of a group of teenage girls willing to tackle the challenge of playing in the division, all going into battle for honours across the first half of year.
Seven teams will contest second division with Pink Ladies, Wade Engineering, Tinonee Termites, All Stars and Howard Funerals returning with The Great Lakers bouncing back after missing the second competition last year and Wing Nuts with a collection of familiar faces combining to form a new team. This division is expected to produce close and exciting basketball each week and much interest will surround the competition ladder to see how the teams settle into their work as they battle for second division glory.
Basketball for men tipped off last Friday night and will move into round two tonight with Kings to play Tigers at 6.00pm and Hawks to take on Wildcats in the 7.00pm timeslot. Team rosters, duty allocations and referee appointments are all on the Taree Basketball website and players should check it out to make sure they are aware of their responsibilities as failure to complete duty and refereeing assignments puts the competition in jeopardy. Problems with the EFTPOS machine last week put individual player registration payments on hold but it was replaced on Wednesday and registrations need to be finalised tonight.
Junior basketball on Tuesday afternoons at Saxby’s Stadium could do with a few more players in the U15 age group and if you are someone who can commit to weekly participation from 4.20pm you are welcome to join the action. Weekly game fee $5.00, annual individual registration fee $60.00
The Saturday morning primary school based basketball competition for children in years 4, 5 and 6 will roll into the second week tomorrow at Saxby’s Stadium from 9.30am and with team numbers up from term four last year, it is pleasing to see all players enjoying the experience and having plenty of fun each time they step onto the court.
