Cardiff Finally Find a Home
After eleven years of searching Cardiff have finally found a home, after Lake Macquarie Council announced the club as the sole winter tenant for the new Cameron Park sports facility.
The facility being constructed at Horizon Ave, Cameron Park will be a standout facility in the Hunter Central Coast region with lights, drainage, irrigation and a 2 storey building, with a community hall, toilets, storage, kiosk, bar, and 4 change rooms.
Cardiff have been without a permanent home since the end of the 2005 season when they were forced off Maneela Oval. Since then they spent seven years at Bill Elliott Oval whilst vthe past three seasons have been spent training at Hillsborough Oval and playing matches at Newcastle No 1 Sportsground.
A spokesperson for Cardiff was thrilled with the announcement.
"This is a very exciting announcement for the club as we now have a direction and the opportunity to grow and become the “destination” AFL club in the region – one of our key strategic goals for the next 5 years"
AFL NSW/ACT Manager - Northern NSW, Simon Smyth was equally excited
"Many people have worked tirelessly over 11 years to get to this point, but the end result will make this wait a little more special" Smyth said.
Work on the project will commence in 2016 with completion expected in readiness for the 2018 BDAFL season.
