New Football Club in South West Queensland- Exciting times ahead
It’s always exciting when you hear of a new club playing in a fantastic new national competition. Right here in our own area, we have such a club being given that opportunity.
Following the recent announcement by Football Queensland, South West Queensland Thunder Football Club has emerged as a brand new entity in SWQ, and will line up alongside a raft of elite clubs to play in the Queensland division of the National Premier Leagues (NPL) Competition. Previously known under the working title of the Australian Premier League (APL), SWQ Thunder will initially participate as an invited “Guest” club in the southern league with male teams from U12-U20 & female U13-U18.
The Club has a number of goals by which they will endeavour to provide opportunities for all members of the football family.
Their intent is to see players being identified to represent Qld at state level, and ultimately their country at youth international level.
They maintain that it is essential to support the Grassroots Football Community of the SWQ Region by assisting in club development and providing stronger links between the football community & the elite player pathway.
SWQ Thunder Teams have Coaches in place and have commenced training, with competition games kicking off the weekend of 9th/10th March. Throughout the season which runs till September, they have 11 home games for all age groups, with U18’s & U20’s on Saturday evenings and all junior games on Sundays. This is an opportunity to see elite youth football at its best in Toowoomba, so come along to games and support this new club.
