National Premier Club champ cancelled

Lae Amateur Basketball Association (LABA) is all set to host the National All Stars Basketball Championship this year. Preparations are all set for the championship to kick off on July 19th – 21st in Lae where selections for the PNG National squad will be selected to undergo training and lead up games in preparations for the 2015 Pacific Games.more

Basketball Program wins national award...

Major Sere Kala and his family have been receiving congratulations over the last few days basketball to deliver some important health and social messages, was recognised as PNG Sports Federation's best Community Sport Initiative at the 2013 Sports Awards night held last weekend.more

MRDC boost PNG Basketballers for Noumea meet

In particular the landowner company has stepped in to support the PNG women’s national team to the Pacific Games in Noumea, New Caledonia.

This has beefed up the preparations for the women’s team who has been in the top five ranking in the Pacific Islands region.

Basketball extends

Basketball in the country is extending at a snail's pace despite the barriers facing the basketball federation of PNG today.

With geographical locations of the 20 provinces including the Nation's capital Port MOresby, Basketball in the country is slowly picking up momentum. Early this year, National Capital District Commission endorsed the suburbs in the city to compete in various sports and basketball was among the few codes listed for funding by NCDC.

Sosoro - A man with a heart

Kossy Sosoro under its Landowner compnay, Kawaso Limited has always continued its support for the development of basketball in the region.

Despite the hardship many youhts of the country has gone through, Kawaso Limited has always wanted to support basketball and this has shown through his financial and logistic support for local basketball associations back in the LNG project area, Kutubu.

Capital basketball resumes

Capital basketball League in Port Moresby has resumed 2011 season last weekend. So far seven teams have confirmed participation. They are the current defending champion, Dream Inn Exodus, Tamaraws, Saints, Defence, Chariots, Jazz and National Gaming Control Board X-Diwai.

With the aim of developing the young ones, CBL has embarked on junior program as well as including them in the 2011 basketball season.

PNG prepares fo 2011 Pacific Game

Basketball Federation of PNG is preparing its players for the upcoming Pacific Games in Noumea, New Caledonia.

Players training have been progressing really well with some young blood added onto the team for futrue representation like the Youth Tournament in 2011 and 2012 while the main focus now will be on the 2015 South Pacific Games to be hosted in Port Moresby, PNG.

02/09/10 Davis reveals the truth

Former President of the Basketball Federation of PNG Ben Davis has revealed the truth of why had resigned from the top post.
Davis in an exclusive interview by phone with BFPNG PR officer, Kevin Teme revealed that the reason for him to resign was because of the fact that some of his executives were not working closley with him and that he found it very hard especially when people concerned were not intact to run the affairs of the BFPNG.more

14/09/2010 Goroka set for highlands open basketball championship

The township of Goroka in the Eastern Highlands Province are all geared up to host the Highlands Open Basketball Championship during the long Independence weekend.
Teams will come as far as the eastern part of Southern Highlands province, Madang, Lae, Kundiawa, Port Moresby (FILBA), Chimbu, Henganofi, Yonki, Kainantu,Enga and host Goroka.more

Nick Daroa is the new president of the Basketbal Federation of Papua New Guinea

Nick Daroa has been nominated as the new President of the Basketball Federation of PNG. One of the best administrator Daroa will be helped by his deputy Emma Waiwai who has retained her seat while Daroa takes over Chey Scovell. Daroa will now work towards building the image of the code which has been hard give the landscape the country has.more

BFPNG set for special general meeting

Basketball Federation of PNG is set for a general meeting to be held on August 28th at the Sir John Guise Stadium.
The meeting is purposely held to iron some in house differences as well as getting the 2010 calendar rolling.
BFPNG president Ben Davis confirmed the meeting and has invited all affliliated associations president to attend the meeting.more

Southern Highlands Provincial government support basketball

One of the 20 provincnes in Papua New Guinea has been backed by its provincial government to move basketball onto another level.
Southern Highlands will be the first province in the region to move basketball with the introduction of super six series starting next year.
This was announced by SHP deputy governor Pastor Isacc Joseph.more

Oceania well represented at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games

Host organisers have just completed the installation of the official competition basketball court ahead of the Youth Olympic Games that gets underway on 14th August in Singapore. This event marks the debut of FIBA 33, the official 3 on 3 version of basketball.

Oceania will be represented by Australia girls, Vanuatu girls and New Zealand men. Players are aged under 18 and coaches under 35.more

20 teams confirm for National Souths basketball tournament

Twenty Teams of both male and female division has been confirmed to take part in the Third National Souths Basketball League Championship in Goroka next weekend.

QUARTER FINALS DELAYED BY NEW RULING

The quarter finals of the PNG Games Basketball Tournament were delayed today after games were halted at half time during the first matches of the day. The reason for the delay was in relation to the newly adjusted PNG Games Charter rule that allows only 3 ‘National’ players on each team with a limit of any 2 of those 3 taking the court at any one time....more

Australian Government Supports Basketball in PNG

Funded by the Australian Government's Sports Outreach Program, the PNGBF's womens "On the Ball and On the Move" program attracted almost 100 women aged 6 years to over 40 years in January.

Chairperson for PNG Women and Sports, Mrs Veitu Diro, led the program for 2 days, and proved to be an expert in basketball coaching and teaching.more

PNG Women miss the bronze in Darwin

The PNG women team participation in Darwin (Arafura Games) reaped rewards as they just missed the Bronze medal by a whisker. It is a good sign for the team in preparation for the SP Games in Samoa 2007.

The Arafura games held in Darwin from the 12th-20th May was used as a lead up competition for the basketball teams in preparation for Samoa. We acknowledge the support of PNG Governments (Business Arm)MRDC and PNGSFOC contribution of K 124,000.00 to making the lead up games possible.

The men team also did well against strong nations Japan, China, Indonesia, USA College and Australian state teams Northern Territory, Queensland, Cairns.

We now look forward to Samoa.more
