History of Club Championships

Basketball Victoria Country Junior Club Championships started some thirty six years ago for Victorian Country “Club” Teams. Over the years it was known as the “Miller Shirt” Junior Clubs, “Avco” Junior Clubs, “Shell” Junior Clubs and was the only competition of its type in Australian Basketball.

A number of years ago the concept was altered and “Representative” teams from Associations were permitted to join with the “Clubs” and as a result the concept of the event became more than a little confused. To rectify this, the BV Country Council on 4th December 2004, agreed to return to the original format: A Junior Club Championship, for genuine “Club” teams.

MAX BOWMAN MEMORIAL SHIELD

Almost from the formation of the Victorian Country Basketball Council in 1967; the late Max Bowman played an important part in its activities as both a Regional Supervisor and as Assistant Secretary to the Council.

Max passed away in 1977 and to perpetuate his memory, the Country Council introduced the Max Bowman Memorial Shield; a perpetual award presented annually to the most successful Club competing in the Victorian Country Junior Club Championship.

The Memorial Shield will be awarded to the Club which obtains the most points on the following basis;

1 point for each team entered in the Championship (max of 8 points)
1 point for each preliminarily round win

1 point for each Title won
