PWM Club Champions 6 years in row

Firstly I would like to congratulate all Parents, coaches, assistant coaches, Managers and their players for their efforts on the weekend at the Peter Wilson Memorial championships at Nelson Bay. The behaviour and sportsmanship was of a high standard and it certainly was noticed by all the other affiliates. A big credit to the clubs achievements go to everyone for the way in which they prepared their teams by eating correctly and keeping warm on the saturday.

A special congratulations to our four winning championship teams 10 Boys, 14 Girls,16 girls & 16 boys teams. To our 18 Girls & 12 boys teams well done on reaching the Final. The 10 girls were beaten semi finalist and were again very unlucky not to reach the final. To the 12 girls, 14 boys & 18 boys your efforts to reach the quarter finals has not gone un notice. To have all ten teams reach the final six in each age group is a great club effort. For all players & Coaches that played at the tournament for the first time, the experience they gained as a whole team on and off the field will only make them a better player/ coach as well as a team and will have a better understanding of what to expect at the Junior State Cup. As a club we had all 10 teams reach the Quater finals, 7 teams reached the semi finals and 6 teams made the finals coming out with four championship wins.

A big special thankyou to all the parents that helped out in the tent area, from cooking the BBQ, making rolls, setting up the tents and packing up and any other small duty that was caried out, without your help our club would not have been able to function the way it did. To all our Referees and to those that helped out refereeing on the weekend a big thanks for your efforts. It is a thankless job I know but we really appreciate the job you do.

The big news was yet to come because at the completion of the Tournament Newcastle were awarded the Club Championship trophy but after an enquiry into the points tally it was noticed that they left off the points from one of our age groups that won. After this was rectified and the points count re done the Berkeley Vale Club was again awarded the Club Championship shield for the sixth year in a row. Newcastle came a very close second this year with Wallsend coming in third. This was a great achievement and was a massive effort from such a small club and everyone involved in the club. This is a just reward for everyone's efforts over the weekend. We have certainly entrenched ourselves as the premier club in the Hunter Hornets area.

The State Cup is now less than two weeks away so teams will be hard at training fine tuning their games to take on the rest of the state and hopefully come away with a couple of State titles and then maybe go one step better then our third place in the Club Championship last year with the ultimate goal the Junior State Cup Club Champions.

Berkeley Vale Touch Operations Manager wins Administrator Award.

At the recent Annual NSWTA Blues Dinner held last Saturday night at Bankstown Sports Club, Berkeley Vale Rugby League & Sports Club Touch Operations Manager Shayne Hayne was awarded Administrator of the Year in the Hunter Western Region. This award capped off a memorable day with Shayne, along with Mark O'Hagan and Greg Jacklin being awarded Life Membership of the Berkeley Vale Rugby League & Sports Club at the Junior Rugby League Presentation earlier that day for his work done through Touch Football and for Junior League Club. Although Shayne didn't go onto win the Major NSWTA Administrator of the year, to be recognised as the best Touch Administrator in the Hunter Western area is a fantastic achievement for him and the Club. The Hunter western area is the largest Region in NSWT which stems from the east coast between Central Coast and Nelson Bay right through to Broken Hill.

The Berkeley Vale Touch Club was also one of four nominees for the Affiliate of the year in the Hunter Western Region along with Dubbo Touch who were the eventual NSWTA Affiliate of the Year winners.

The Berkeley Vale Club was extremely proud and honoured to have received the nominations which validates and recognises the hard work our volunteers have done over the years to get the club to its current standing within the touch community.

For further information or comment, please contact our Touch Operations Manager, Shayne, on 0407 208 769 or email touch@bvpanthers.com.aumore
