The Qantas Joeys will depart Australia next Monday for a five-match tour of Chile in preparation for the Oceania Under 17 World Championship qualifying tournament in New Caledonia in April.

Once again this makes life tough for Samoa who are due to face the Joeys in New Caledonia.

One pleasing factor for Samoa's National Coach is that one of his junior players from his former region in Australia has been called up.

I am personally delighted for Morgan (Zeeno) who was only 14 when I left. He was certainly a player of potential and his progress gives me great pleasure and I hope he can take the next step. It is also pleasing to see so many Queensland lads included which says much for the development programs up there.

The Joeys tour will include two matches against the Chile Under 17 national team and three matches against the youth teams of top Chilean clubs. A preparation that are just dreams for all of the Pacific Island nations

The 20-man squad includes 11 players who featured in December's tour of the United States including Queensland Striker David Williams who has just returned from the Solomon Islands where he helped the Qantas Young Socceroos qualify for June's FIFA World Youth Championship. Canberra-based midfielder Kaz Patafta who featured prominently during the United States tour, and who has also appeared for the Qantas Young Socceroos, was not considered for the squad due to injury.

This tour will give coach Ange Postecoglou a further opportunity to prepare his squad ahead of April's Oceania U-17 qualifying tournament.

The tour will be ideal preparation for the squad ahead of the qualifiers," said Postecoglou. "The South Americans take their youth football very seriously and the Under 20s tour of South America late last year was extremely valuable in every respect.
