KBA Welcomes the New Under 18's Competition!

The  KBA B-Grade competition has been restructured and renamed and will now be known as the KBA Under 18's Competition. It is open to all High School Students aged from 12 - 18 years.

The management committee made the decision to restructure some of the club comps based on age to help bring us inline with other clubs structures across the state.  This will also help us with the transitioning of younger players.  In the past the KBA B-Grade competition has been open to players of all ages. It is now open only to players aged 12 years old at 1st January 2017 to those turning 18 before the 31st December 2017.  As players in this competition are all under 18 years we ask that each team supply one adult each game to sit on the bench with them to sub, coach, mentor or even merely supervise during their games.  This may be a parent of a player or we may have some ex A-Grade players willing to take teams under their wings this season.  We would like to see every U18 team with a coach.  Dan Walters will be coordinating this age group again this year.

Any players aged 18 or older at 1st January 2017, now have the option of playing in the Social Mixed Competition held at the courts on Wednesday nights or move up to A-Grade. Please note: Due to being unable to find anyone willing to coordinate the A-Grade competition this year, it has been put on hold for Season 1, 2017.  In the meantime we will continue looking to recruit someone to bring it back bigger and better in Season 2 and those Under 18's looking to move up to A-Grade may do so then.

All players aged 15+ have the option to play Social Mixed on a Wednesday night. If players choose to play both U18 and Mixed, half price court fees will be offered for mixed.  Normally $120 for the mixed season, U18 players may play on a Tuesday and Wednesday for an additional $60 for the season. The rules are a little different in mixed and it is a comp for fun and fitness and enjoyment of the game.  There will be zero tolerance for abuse of referees, rough play and bad language and attitudes and negativity are not welcome.  If you are interested we are holding a Come and Try with a free Sausage Sizzle on Wednesday 8th Feb at 6pm.  Males are encouraged to bring their girl friends, partners, wives and even their mums to play.  Players skill level range from experienced ex A-Grade players to those with no experience at all!

Another exciting development at the club is the introduction of the KBA Under 12's Competition.  More information on this can also be found here on our website and our newsletter.

More U18 News:  We are hoping to introduce an U18's Representative Team to our club this year! These players will have the opportunity to play carnivals in Roma, Dalby and Hervey Bay. We have also been in talks with Gympie Basketball who are keen to organise some friendly rep matches between us and Hervey Bay throughout the year.  Final decisions on how this will run and the selection process is still to be determined as we will be relying on the help of volunteers for coaching and management.  Players selected will be required to attend extra training in preparation for carnivals and there will be costs to families involved for travel and accomodation. The club will do some fundraising throughout the year to help with some expenses like team nomination fees etc. but not everything will be able to be covered.  This is something for those that are especially keen, to try out for and look forward too.

Muster for the U18's Competition will be from 4 - 6pm on Tuesday 7th February at the High School Indoor Centre.  Court fees remain the same and are $120 for the season.  Basketball Qld registration fees MUST BE PAID ONLINE at the beginning of the year and this covers your registration and insurance for all of 2017. This has gone up slightly to $31.50 per player.  We are still offering a family discount on court fees for families with 3 or more children playing in the U12, U18 or mixed comps.  Talk to Cath in the canteen if you would like to know more.

Please note:  As affilliate members of Basketball Qld we are bound by their By-Laws not to allow players to take the court without their BQ Memberships being paid.  Our club is liable for fines up to $1000 if we allow unregistered players to take the court.  Players may play a maximum of two (2) games at the start of the season without payment.  If fees are not paid in full by the third (3rd) game you will not be allowed to take the court.  Please do not be offended if you have not paid and are asked to leave the court. These are rules set for us by Basketball Qld and as affilliate club admistrators it is our job to ensure they are followed as instructed.  NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE!

If you are having difficulties paying your KBA Court Fees or have a large family, a payment arrangement must be made by writing to the club secretary or by emailling kingaroybasketball@gmail.com. No payment arrangements will be made at the canteen. Written requests for extensions on Court Fee payments will be referred to the management committee for approval.  (This however does not apply to BQ registration fees which must be paid - no exceptions.)

We would prefer Court Fees be paid with your BQ registration online, however we are still happy to take cash at the canteen or direct credit via bank transfer.

We are excited about the changes we have made at the club this year!  We hope you enjoy the Under 18's Competition in season 1 2017.

Regards,

KBA Management Committee.
