Hume takes winning form into finals

By Ahmed Yussuf

Hume's PS4 NPL Victoria finals preparation ended with a a late 2-0 home win against Pascoe Vale SC at ABD Stadium on Sunday.

Shaun Timmins opened the scoring late on after Nick Hegarty’s corner into the area. Theo Markelis would make it two moments later settling Hume’s win.

Hume started the livelier of the two with their pair of wide men making runs in behind the Pascoe Vale defence. Pavlak drives down the flank to send a ball in the area but Paco’s shot-stopper Alex Pavlidis was up to the challenge.

On the other side, Theo Markelis was finding some space and moving inside into the middle to create. The diminutive attacker cleverly nutmegged his marker putting through captain Nick Hegarty.

Paco were able to calm the storm, and on the counter Davey Van’t Schip had their first shot on goal. The Dutchman’s movement saw him find room to take on his volleyed shot that stung the palms of Hume ‘keeper Chris Oldfield.

Ingham dribbled past leaving his marker for dead. The former Brisbane Roar man turned to take his shot that Pavlidis spilled out, but luckily for the ‘keeper his defenders were alert to the danger.

Pavlak continued his presence out wide, this time swinging in a cross-come-shot that hit the backside of Talarico. The deflection almost put Pavlidis off guard, but the Paco number one saved his defenders blushes.

In the second half, Hume started with some purpose winning a penalty less than ten minutes from the restart. After sequence of passes, Markelischipped a ball into the path of Hegarty who was met with an onrushing Pavlidis.

The referee adjudged it to be foul play and pointed to the spot. Captain Hegarty stood up to take responsibility, but his spot kick didn’t find the target ricocheting off the post.

Late in the half Paco found a second wind pouring forward into the Hume penalty area.

It would force Hume ‘keeper Oldfield to show his worth between the sticks. Hume’s number one took on the task coming up with a raft of breathtaking saves. The Englishman leapt to tip over Talarico’s effort on goal to preserve his clean sheet.

The shot-stopper thwarted Paco once again, this time denying captain Joseph Youssef’s header on goal.

Final ten minutes proved decisive for Hume, scoring two goals in the space of a few minutes.

Timmins found space in a crowded penalty area to score a scrappy goal from a Hegarty corner.

Moments later, Markelis doubled their lead after Pavlak providing a cross from wide. The attacker had little left to do, other than provide a deft touch to guide into the back of the net.
