Green Gully have confined Werribee City to the PlayStation 4 NPL Victoria relegation zone with a 2-0 away win at Galvin Park on Sunday afternoon.

In a good old fashioned relegation six-pointer, Gully pushed clear of the bottom three in what was a routine win for the visitors.

First half goals to Matthew Breeze and Evan Christodoulou did the job for Green Gully to earn their sixth win of the campaign.

In what was a disappointing day for Werribee who offered up very little in terms of attacking threat, the loss sees the Bees in a perilous position on the ladder mired to the bottom three.

Their inability to find the net has been the story of the season as they once again failed in front of goal, unable to add to their league-low tally of 15 goals.

It was a different story for Green Gully who put away two classy goals to leave Galvin Park with maximum points.

To afternoon started brightly for Werribee who controlled the early stages of the game. That all changed quickly as the tide turned with Green Gully’s opener in the 19th minute.

A lovely bit of passing work in the midfield led to Breeze sliding into the box un-manned who put in a tidy finish from close range to beat Werribee ‘keeper David Thomson.

The goal seem to deflate the Bees who couldn’t get moving after going behind while Gully pushed their authority on the contest.

Christodolou put the result out of Werribee’s reach in the 35th minute with an exquisite volley to double his sides lead.

The second half was a non-event as the home side tried in vain to get back into the fixture while Green Gully cruised to the final whistle with little resistance from the home side.

Werribee’s best chance of the afternoon didn’t fall into five minute from time when wide-man Simon Zappia broke free but sent his curling shot wide from inside the box when he should have done better.

Both sides will be in for difficult weekends next round with Werribee hitting the road to travel to Knights Stadium while Green Gully host high-flying Bentleigh Greens in Round 19.
