A dominant first half set the scene for a convincing Port Melbourne Sharks' victory over Werribee City on Sunday afternoon at Galvin Park.

With the hosts in desperate need of a victory in order to climb out of the relegation zone, it was Port Melbourne who was completely dominant in the opening exchanges.

Nick Krousoratis was lively up front and should’ve opened the scoring in the 7th minute after being slipped in behind by James Riccobene, but he couldn’t get any power on his effort which was saved by Frano Saric.

The Werribee custodian was under immense pressure inside the first 20 minutes, with Julius Davies the next to test the former St Albans goalkeeper but Saric made a good save, tipping the ball away.

Port Melbourne finally opened the scoring through Krousoratis in the 27th minute.

After being played through on goal the striker slotted the ball home through the legs of the onrushing Saric to make it 1-0.

The visitors doubled their lead in the 39th minute through Adrian Zahra.

The former Melbourne Heart winger got on the end of a fantastic corner kick from Riccobene to head home, giving Port a deserved two goal buffer going into the break.

The second half then picked up where the first left off as Port added a third in the 50th minute.

Following a poor attempted clearance, the ball fell at the feet of Kamal Ibrahim who beat a man before slotting home past Saric, with the ball hitting the post on its way in.

The ever-lively Zahra then very nearly made it 4-0 after turning on the pace to beat two players before hitting a stinging shot from the edge of the area which was parried away by Saric.

Werribee then got a goal back with just over 15 minutes to play as Simon Zappia found space following a goalmouth scramble to prod home, setting up an interesting finish to the match.

Despite some late pressure from the hosts, Port Melbourne held on to secure a deserved three points.
