Preview:

Adelaide City host the Modbury Jets in round 8 of the PlayStation 4 National Premier League South Australia.

Both sides sit in the bottom half of the ladder as they tussle to string together any sort of form and consistency.

Despite this, only three points stand in the way of the ninth placed City and a potential birth inside the jam packed top six.

After City snatched a one all draw last week with Port Adelaide, top scorer Nicholas Bucco admits the team is going through a rough patch, but views this week as the perfect time to turn around their fortunes.

“We’ve suffered from inconsistency this year, and also a lot of last year in the league; we need to aim to improve our league consistency, and that will make us closer to the top.

“We’re definitely not taking Modbury lightly, we massively need three points so we’re raring to go.”

Bucco said that defensive lapses and individual errors were costing the side.

“We need to aim to keep clean sheets and cut out individual errors which we’ve been making a lot of lately, and if we can do that I’m sure we’ll be fine; you can only win games buy not conceding as many goals as your opponent.”

He added that their defensive pressure was an area that needed to be improved.

“We definitely need to keep possession of the ball better, and we need to put the opposition under more pressure, so increase our pressing, which we have been working on in training.”

Modbury are treading water at the bottom of the ladder after a tough start to the season, which Coach Jason Trimboli believes is a result of the gulf in class between the State League and Premier League being a tough adjustment.

“The team has been learning how to deal with the team’s in the Premier league, by no means have we found the formula, but I do believe that as a team we are getting better.”

Trimboli added that a change in formation has been key for a stark turnaround by the side, evident in a share of the points with Raiders.

“We changed our formation to try and counter what we knew about Raiders, and that seemed to pay dividends.”

Confidence is sure to be low at Jet Park, but Trimboli has faith that a win against City will restore some self-belief and help them to push on for the rest of the season.

“We need a win more than anything for a bit of confidence and self-belief; I believe we’re good enough to compete and get results at this level, but we do need to get that first win over the line so the boys can believe in themselves.”
