R13 Wrap: South Adelaide v Campbelltown City

Campbelltown City continued its charge with a 3-1 success against South Adelaide in Round 13 of the PlayStation 4 National Premier League South Australia at O’Sullivan Beach Sports Complex on Saturday.

Captain Iain Fyfe led with a first-half double, netting either side of Jonathon Rideout’s goal. The Red Devils sealed the points when Kento Hara added a third shortly after half-time.

Having been eliminated from Westfield FFA Cup Qualifying by Croydon, Campbelltown midfielder Vas Parhas said it was good to return to the winners list.

“It’s always a massive challenge going there and getting a result. We grinded out the win,” he said after a fourth successive league win.

“I’m proud of the boys as we did the one-percenters well and matched their physicality. We started well in terms of energy levels. That was the difference from last week. We were quick to close down and win the 50-50s.

“We can go a long way, but there are still nine games to go. You have to peak at the right time and we’ll continue to improve, I’m sure of that.”

South Adelaide coach Danny Graystone did take some positives from the defeat.

“Mistakes cost us and we were chasing the game. They were three poor goals to concede. That’s the story of our season,” he said.

“It didn’t look like a top team against a bottom team. We started brightly and matched them until the opening goal. We rallied, but it was disappointing to go in at half-time behind.

“We did some soul searching in the week and dug in. We entered the pitch as a team and came off together. If we do that against the lower ranked sides we can get the points we need. We remain positive.”

Hara was played through on goal inside the opening 10 minutes, but hooked his shot wide with only goalkeeper Addison Rogers to beat.

Rogers failed to swat away a Campbelltown corner and a stretching Fyfe came within a whisker of heading into an empty net, glancing the ball the wrong side of the post.

The Red Devils did take the lead in the 26th minute as Adam Piscioneri’s free kick was spilled by Rogers and Fyfe poked the ball in on the line.

But South was level just six minutes later. Liam Molesworth cut the ball back for Rideout to sweep his shot into the top corner.

Anthony Ture’s deep 41st minute corner smacked off the far post and as the move continued a fortuitous ricochet fell for Fyfe, who chipped Rogers with an expert finish to restore the lead.

Piscioneri flicked a second half ball through for Hara, who forced a good save from Rogers. The goalkeeper had to be alert as Jacob Williams then fired in a rebound which was also beaten away.

South Adelaide failed to clear a 55th minute Campbelltown corner and Hara hit a shot into the ground which looped over Rogers.

Molesworth’s snapshot was parried by Nicholas Harpas, with Campbelltown only able to clear momentarily. It came out to Mitchell Sumnall who thumped the ball from more than 30 meters which whistled past the post.

Jake Monaco’s cutback was met by Piscioneri who forced a fantastic save from Rogers.

Seeking a hat-trick, Fyfe curled a free kick over the wall but past the post, as Campbelltown saw out the contest to secure yet another victory.
