Finals Series Fixtures - Week 3
FFSA is pleased to announce the schedule for Week 3 of the Final Series and Play-Off for all grades for this weekend, Saturday September 3, 2016.
For the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues and State League 1 the winner of the Preliminary Final will gain a Grand Final berth.
Campbelltown City will be out to avoid exiting the Finals Series without a victory when they face West Torrens Birkalla, a side that has already advanced through two elimination finals.
The home side, which finished second to Grand Final qualifiers Adelaide City, will go into the match full of confidence having defeated their visitors twice this season without conceding a goal.
Former Adelaide United star Iain Fyfe, who leads the Red Devils, will have his hands full with a confident Birkalla attack which scored one of the goals of the season last Saturday night.
Birkalla, who finished third this season, know what it takes to reach this stage, having been in the Preliminary Final last year, the club will be aiming to go at least one step further this year.
In State League 1, Para Hills Knights will need to beat Sturt Lions for an opportunity to take on Premiers and Major Semi-Final winner, Cumberland United.
However, in similar vein to the top-flight situation, the Lions have progressed through two elimination finals and with the glory of promotion on the line, this clash at The Paddocks is sure to draw a massive crowd with a fervent atmosphere.
Not too long ago, Sturt Lions were in the State's lowest tier and now, in a Leicester City-like rise, a win will hand them an opportunity to compete with South Australia's best.
State League 2 outfit Gawler has one foot in State League 1 in 2017 having beaten Adelaide Hills Hawks (11th Placed Finisher in State League 1) 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. The second leg, at the Hawks Nest, has the potential to be a goal fest if the home side is to bounce back and retain their current position in State League 1 for next season.
