PS4 NPL: Tigers and Blue Devils Face Off

PLAYSTATION 4 NATIONAL PREMIER LEAGUES: CANBERRA
MATCHDAY 17

The PlayStation® 4 National Premier Leagues Canberra competition is likely to go to the wire and Matchday 17 could have a huge impact on the destination of the League Championship trophy. That’s because leaders Tigers FC face potentially their trickiest obstacle to negotiate as they face Belconnen United at McKellar Park. And with the Blue Devils still in with an outside chance of claiming the crown themselves, everything will be on the line.

A win for the Tigers would mean they would be in pole position, considering their superior goal difference, and would require the chasing teams to claim maximum points and a raft of goals should the Tigers, as expected win their remaining fixture. Before thinking that far ahead though the Tigers will no doubt prepare fully for a severe test with Belconnen a tough opposition on their home patch.

Should Tigers slip up Canberra Olympic are the best placed to take advantage and they can keep the pressure up on Gaby Wilk’s group should they overcome what will be a stout resistance from Woden-Weston FC at O’Connor Enclosed on Sunday afternoon. Olympic were in Westfield FFA Cup action on Wednesday and whether that takes something out of them remains to be seen.

Woden-Weston FC secured a morale boosting 2-0 win over Tuggeranong United at Woden Park on Matchday 16 and will enter the match with nothing to lose as they look to prise themselves away from the foot of the league table. Any dropping of points for Olympic could prove terminal so expect a highly charged encounter.

Canberra FC’s slim hopes of a league title success were ended with a 3-1 loss to Tigers FC at Nijong Oval last weekend and with their fourth spot secure they will be in a position to experiment, and maybe rest a few players, ahead of finals football, when they welcome the FFA COE to Deakin Stadium on Sunday. The FFA COE returned from a successful AFF Championship to claim a win over Monaro Panthers last time out and certainly will provide a stern test for FC.

The Panthers themselves will be aiming to bounce back from that loss when they take on the CU Academy at the Riverside Stadium whilst Tuggeranong United will be keen to get back to winning ways when Gungahlin United provides their opponent at Kambah 2.
