PS4 NPL: Tigers Eyeing Top Spot

PlayStation 4® National Premier Leagues: Capital Football
Round 11 Preview

By John Gibson

Saturday 20th June 2015
FFA Centre of Excellence vs Tuggeranong United FC
(AIS, 3pm)

In the first of only two matches in the local PS4 NPL this weekend, due to the Westfield FFA Cup Qualifying Final, FFA COE play host to Tuggeranong United at the AIS playing fields on Saturday. Tuggeranong make the trip to the Institute after losing to Canberra Olympic in Round 10 where Zac Munster was once again on target, but his team was unable to score another to level and get their first point of the season. Watching their games, you can sense with a bit of luck their first result isn’t too far away. It may be a hard task this week however, with FFA COE enjoying a week off. The youngsters probably don’t need a break, with arguably the fittest and largest squad in the PS4 NPL and one that is brimming with confidence as they build towards the FIFA U17 World Cup this year. Last time these two met, FFA COE ran out comfortable winners 3-0 and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a similar result this time around.

Sunday 21st June 2015
Tigers FC vs Monaro Panthers
(Nijong Oval, 3pm)

Sunday’s only match in Round 11 of the competition is the battle of the big cats, with Monaro Panthers making the trip down south to take on Tigers FC at Nijong Oval.  Tigers FC have been in ominous form recently, scoring nine goals in their past two outings, beating FFA COE 4-2 in Round 8 and then smashing Woden-Weston FC 5-0 under the floodlights of Woden Park last week. Their attacking threat is one of the best in the competition, with Woden-Weston’s defence having no answer for the speed and skill of the Cooma based team led by the indomitable Alex Oloriegbe and the increasingly influential Julian Borgna. Monaro Panthers aren’t quite enjoying the same run of form, with a 4-1 loss to Canberra FC in Round 10 continuing their unlucky run of results. This will again be a tough battle for Monaro but as always, a result is possible with a complete performance from the whole team. The introduction of new goalkeeper Ashley Collins, signed from Belconnen United, gives added steel to their back-line.
