A late equaliser from Taylor Beaton has kept Belconnen's ACT National Premier League title chances alive in a 2-2 draw with Canberra FC at McKellar Park on Wednesday night.
Belconnen got off to the perfect start thanks to striker Danai Gapare, who scored in the 7th minute. Things got even worse for Canberra FC in the 20th minute, when Robbie Deeley received a red card after an altercation with Matthew Grbesa.
However, Belconnen were unable to exploit their numerical advantage and Canberra FC would bring themselves level in the 71st minute. Thomas James set up Josip Jadric, who scored the equaliser off the underside of the crossbar.
Canberra FC looked like they had secured all three points in the 90th minute after James converted a penalty conceded by Matthew Grbesa. Just seconds later however, the scores were level once again, as Taylor Beaton scored a spectacular goal from 25 yards.
The draw keeps Tigers FC at the top on 33 points (14 games), but Belconnen (31 points, 15 games) and Canberra FC (30 points, 14 games) remain within striking distance.
