Gungahlin United 1 (Fogarty 52’)def. by Canberra United Academy 2 (Genovesi 71’, Matic 12’)

The Canberra United Academy continued their winning start to the season on with a 2 – 1 victory at Gungahlin Enclosed Oval on a wet Sunday afternoon. Cecilija Matic got the Academy off to a strong-start after just 12 minutes as she tucked home for the lead, and despite Gungahlin’s best efforts they were unable to restore parity before half-time.

However soon after the break the home side hit back, as Georgia Fogarty scored to level up proceedings. With Gungahlin looking to make their physical edge count over the younger Academy side, CUA pressed the home team and found the breakthrough in the 71st minute as Jasmine Genovesi netted the eventual winner to keep her side three from three so far this season.

Woden-Weston FC 3 (Gayer 32', Raap 85', Plummer 90'+) def. Tuggeranong United 2 (Van Dommelen 10’, Hill 18’)

Woden-Weston posted a boil over victory against rivals Tuggeranong United on Sunday as they came from two goals down to steal a late win. Paula Van Dommelen fired the visitors into an early lead before Sandra Hill doubled the advantage after 18 minutes, and it looked as though the afternoon would be a simple one for Tuggies.

Celina Gayer pulled one goal back for Woden-Weston as Diego Elmoudawar’s side handled the majority of the possession and the teams headed in to the break with the visitors up 2-1. Woden-Weston had a number of chances to pull themselves level in the second half but were unable to convert until the 85th minute when substitute Lotta Raap levelled the sides up. Bridgit Plummer completed the comeback in a frantic stoppage time period as she fired home to give Woden-Weston their first points of the season.

Canberra FC 1 (Risteski 5') def. Canberra Olympic 0

Canberra FC notched their second-straight win in wet & wild conditions at Deakin on Sunday with a one-goal win over rivals Canberra Olympic. Gabrielle Risteska got the home side off to the perfect start after only five minutes as she scored to give Canberra FC the lead as the hosts set the tone from the outset.

With conditions tough, both teams had their chances; Olympic to equalise and Canberra FC to extend their lead but neither side were able to take the opportunities. With Mark Risteski’s side still missing a number of key players, Olympic knew this was a chance to take points early in the season, but wayward finishing eventually cost them the chance.
