PS4 National Premier League Round 3 Wrap

FFA Centre of Excellence 5 (Muratovic 6’, Bafford 10’, Mavros 37’, 41’, Trewin 31’) def. Monaro Panthers 0

The FFA Centre of Excellence continued their strong start to the season on Sunday with a thumping 5-0 win over Monaro Panthers. Mirza Muratovic got the youngsters off to the perfect start as he scored after just six minutes, before Bryce Bafford netted from the penalty spot four minutes later.

The first half onslaught continued as Kai Trewin extended the advantage just after the half-hour mark to make it 3-0, and Charlie Mavros grabbed a quick brace before the break to take a five-goal advantage into half-time. Panthers improved considerably in the second half but were unable to find a goal of their own, with the match petering out to finish with the same scoreline at the final whistle.

 

Woden-Weston FC 2 (Yinka-Kehinde 70’, 90+5’)drew. Riverina Rhinos 2 (Donadel 3’, 64’)

Woden-Weston produced a thrilling come from behind victory on Saturday as both they and the Riverina Rhinos picked up their first points of the 2017 season. The Rhinos jumped out to the perfect start at Woden Park when Jacob Donadel scored after just four minutes. The Rhinos went into half-time a goal to the good and doubled their advantage nine minutes into the second half through Ally MacLeod’s strike. 

The introduction of Olaide Yinka-Kehinde three minutes before that proved to be the game changer however, as he scored in the 70th minute to cut the deficit to one goal. A wild second half which saw a red card and multiple chances still had one twist left though, as the substitute scored his second in the fifth minute of stoppage time to grab a point for the home side.

 

Belconnen United 2 (Beaton 59’, Ugrinic 90+3’)def. by Canberra FC 4 (Giampaolo 44’, Kresic 45+2, James 69’, 88’)

A dominant Canberra FC continued their perfect start to season 2017 with a stirring win at McKellar Park on Saturday evening. After a strong start from both sides, the visitors were pushed onto the back foot in the 22nd minute when Ian Graham was dismissed from the field.

With only ten men they could have been forgiven for sitting back however they absorbed Belconnen’s pressure and pushed forward with their own, and went ahead in the 44th minute through Domenic Giampaolo’s spot kick, before Niko Kresic sealed the first half as he rounded the keeper to score.

Taylor Beaton have Belconnen a lifeline in the 59th minute when he beat Sam Brown from close range, but 10 minutes later Thomas James curled home a free-kick to restore the buffer, and again with two minutes remaining to put the game out of reach. Jason Ugrinic netted in stoppage time for the Blue Devils however it was too little, too late for the home side.

 

Gungahlin United 1 (Doherty (OG) 38’) def. Tuggeranong United 0

A solitary own-goal from Tuggeranong United was enough to give Gungahlin United their second win of the PS4 National Premier League season on Sunday. In a very even contest, Cameron Doherty’s touch into his own net after 38 minutes separated the two side, after Aisosa Ihegie struck the crossbar for Tuggies on the half-hour mark.

The visitors were forced to chase the game in the second half but struggled to break down a tight Gunners defence, with shot stopper Jason Denham making a number of strong saves to hold out for the Gungahlin win.

Tigers FC 1 (Abot 85’) def. by Canberra Olympic 7 (Own Goal 10’, Colbertaldo 32’, Domenici 53’,78’, Habtemariam 76’, 87’, Tsekenis 89’)

Canberra Olympic got back to winning ways on Sunday as a dominant performance in Cooma saw them run out 7-1 winners over Tigers FC. An early own goal put Tigers on the back foot after just 10 minutes, before Daniel Colbertaldo’s long-range rocket doubled the advantage for the visitors heading into the break.

Tigers had no answers to a clinical Olympic in the second half, as the reigning premiers pushed their lead out through doubles to Stephen Domenici and then Jeremy Habtemarian. Nikolas Abot pulled a goal back late for the home side but it was in vain as Jordan Tsekenis iced the score line in the 89th minute.
