Gungahlin United 9 (Ashleigh Palombi 10’, 28’, 32’, 83’, Alex Martens 27’, 46’, Grace Field 20’, Alex Lawrence 63’, 69’)def. Monaro Panthers 0
Gungahlin United put in a dominant performance on Saturday afternoon to hand the Monaro Panthers their fifth straight NPLW loss.
The home site piled on the pressure from the get-go and jumped out to an early lead as Ashleigh Palombi fired home her first after ten minutes. Monaro fought back though to take some control of the play, but were setback as Grace Field extended the advantage, before Gungahlin fired home twice in quick succession through Alex Martens and then Palombi again to grab her hat-trick.
Palombi scored again a few minutes later to extend the lead to five and it remained that way at the break following a dominant half. The second period began much the same way as Martens secured her brace almost immediately with a well-taken goal within a minute as Monaro wilted under Gungahlin’s forward pressure.
Substitute Alex Lawrence came out firing for the second half as well, and she grabbed a quick-fire brace in six minutes with tidy finishes in the 63rd and 69th minutes. With the match already sealed it was up to Palombi to add the finishing touches with her fourth just seven minutes from time.
The result sees Gungahlin jump to third in the table and leave Monaro struggling in second-last on the table.
Tuggeranong United 2 (Paula Van Dommelen 14’, Emily Jensen 35’)def. Canberra Olympic 1 (L. Dawson 66’)
Tuggeranong United jumped back on the winners list on Sunday afternoon as two first-half goals secured a 2-1 victory over Canberra Olympic.
The home side took the initiative from the outset and looked to dominate the game, but were unable to take initial chances. Paula Van Dommelen struck after 14 minutes to give Tuggeranong the lead and momentum as they continued to create chances up front.
Emily Jensen capitalised on the momentum after 35 minutes as Tuggeranong doubled their lead and headed into the break two goals to the good. But Olympic came out stronger on the other side of the break and were allowed back into the match as the home side dropped their intensity.
When a chance fell Lily Dawson’s way in the 66th minute she jumped on it and suddenly the visitors were right back in the match at 2-1. However, Tuggeranong held firm to see out the rest of the match ahead and snap a three match winless streak that had plagued them since two early-season wins.
Olympic were left still searching for their first win of the season despite an improved performance.
Belconnen United 6 (Jordan Buchanan 3’, Karen Clarke 19’, Maddy Whittall 26’, 84’, Chloe Callaghan 31’, Jessie Williams 62’)def. Woden-Weston FC 0
Belconnen United leapt to the top of the table on Sunday afternoon with a thumping win over Woden-Weston at Woden Park.
The visitors jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they ran over the top of a depleted Woden-Weston side.

Canberra United Academy 0 def. by Canberra FC 1 (Chantel Jones 84’)
The Canberra United Academy’s perfect start to the season came to an end on Sunday as last season’s Grand Finalists Canberra FC ground out a 1-0 win at Hawker Football Centre.
With the Academy looking to start hard and fast, the experienced Canberra FC side took them right on in what shaped up from the beginning as a physical encounter. With Canberra FC still missing players due to injury the match was fought out hard in the middle of the park, with neither side able to create many clear cut chances as they went into the half-time break on level terms.
The second half continued in much the same fashion, with both sides looking to outbody one another. As the half wore on it appeared neither side would break the deadlock and the visitors would be in their second goalless draw in a row. But just six minutes from time, midfielder Chantel Jones found a chance and grabbed it, firing home to give her side a lead with not much time to go. The Academy were unable to find an equaliser with time winding down as they fell to their first loss of the season.
