Monaro Panthers 4 (Zoe Szeremet 46’, 51’, 81’, Meuronen 77’) drew. Tuggeranong United 4 (Meg McLaughlin 23’, 75’, Sandra Hill 37’, Own Goal 59’)

The Monaro Panthers and Tuggeranong United played out a thrilling 4-4 draw on Sunday in the PS4NPLW Match of the Round. Tuggerannong took a 2-0 lead into the half-time break but a second-half hattrick from Zoe Szerement pulled Monaro right back into the match in a whirlwind second 45.

Belconnen United 7 (Jasmine Maguire 17’, 45+1’, Maddy Whittall 18’, 37’, Nicole Jalocha 50’, Chloe Callaghan 53’, Karen Clarke 71’) def. Canberra United Academy 0

Belconnen United put themselves outright first in the Playstation 4 National Premier League Women’s with a dominant 7-0 win over the Canberra United Academy at McKellar Park.

After an even start, the reigning Premiers began to assert themselves on the match and Jasmine Maguire gave them the lead with a nice finish after 17 minutes. Maddy Whittall shocked the visitors as she doubled the score just a minute later, and United took control from there.

Maguire and Whittall both grabbed another of their own before the half-time break as the home side went into the sheds four goals to the good. Nicole Jacocha extended the advantage five minutes into the second half as she took full advantage of a dropped ball off a corner to volley home from point-blank range, and the Academy appeared stunned at five goals down. Three minutes later Michaela Day slid a pass to the back post for Chloe Callaghan to tuck home, and Karen Clarke rounded out the scoring on 71 minutes as she slid a penalty underneath the keeper after a push in the box. 

The Academy struggled to create chances as the game wore on and both sides appeared tired as the match petered out to a close.

 

Canberra FC 4 (Chantel Jones 28’, 70’, Marcia Wallis 90+1’, Hayley McLachlan 21’) def. Gungahlin United 1 (Ashleigh Palombi 75’)

Canberra FC leapfrogged Gungahlin United into third place on the table with a 4-1 defeat of them at Deakin on Sunday.

In a match that opened at a fast-pace, the home side were the first to strike as Hayley McLachlan opened the scoring after 21 minutes. Chantel Jones added to the scoresheet seven minutes later as she got her first of the match and Canberra FC took control of the match through to the half-time break

The second half began evenly and continued at the same pace as the first half, but again the home side were the first to create the breakthrough. Jones completed her brace 15 minutes into the half to give her side a 3-0 lead, before Ashleigh Palombi gave her side a sliver of hope with 15 minutes left as she finished a good Gungahlin move.

However the home side held strong against the visitors as they chased the game, and Marcia Wallis sealed the deal in stoppage time as she made it 4-1 to Canberra FC.

 

Canberra Olympic 0 def. by Woden-Weston FC 4 (Laura Vandenbroucke 30’, Vanessa Ryan 40’, 48’, Cassia McGlashan 79’)

Woden-Weston bounced back from last weekend’s thumping from Belconnen FC as they recorded a 4-0 victory to keep Canberra Olympic winless on the season so far. 

Diego Elmoudawar made a number of changes following injuries in the previous match, and his side came out of the blocks stronger as they looked to push Olympic back from the outset. Rob Scott’s Olympic side were up to the challenge early however as they fought back, but the visitors found a way through after a half-hour as Laura Vandenbroucke opened the scoring.

It only took them ten minutes to find another as Vanessa Ryan scored her first goal of the game to fire her side into a 2-0 lead as half-time approached. Ryan picked up where she left off after the interval as she sealed her brace just three minutes into the second half and gave Woden-Weston a seemingly unassailable lead. Try as they might Olympic were unable to find a breakthrough as they pushed forward, and Cassia McGlashan struck with 12 minutes remaining to seal the match as Olympic opened up on the counter attack. 

The win leaves Woden-Weston just two points outside the top four as they face the Canberra United Academy next weekend.
