Belconnen United claimed their seventh straight Women’s Premier League Premiership and the inaugural Playstation4 National Premier Leagues Women’s Capital Football Premiership with a 1-0 win over Canberra FC on Sunday. 

Nicole Jalocha’s goal just before the half-time break was enough to clinch the win in a cagey encounter plagued by blustery conditions at Deakin, and United coach Antoni Jagarinec admitted in wasn’t the side’s best performance. 

“The conditions first and foremost weren’t great,” he said. “With the wind going straight across the field so the ball was in the same part of the park for both halves. 

“It wasn’t our best performance, in saying that we were struggling with injuries today so we moved people out of their comfortable positions. But we don’t concede goals, that’s what we’re about, so we didn’t concede and scored a good goal on the press and got rewarded with the three points.” 

Despite the incredible run of seven Premierships, this represents the first team to take out the competition in its current iteration, as the PS4 NPL Women’s Capital Football. 

“It feels sensational, just as good as the first,” Jagarinec said. 

“The girls worked hard and are now rewarded with a couple of rounds still left before the finals series.”

With attentions now turning to Wednesday night’s Federation Cup Final against the Canberra United Academy Jagarinec said it was an added bonus that the side could rest easy for the final few weeks of the season to prepare for finals.

“The last six weeks we haven’t had the same lineup one weekend to the next, we are really struggling with injuries this year,” he said. 

“But we are rotating and recovering really well, but we will use this three weeks.”

“We are going out there to play football and try to get three points, but we will be very smart about who we put on the park and for how many minutes.”

And ahead of the short turnaround to Wednesday night, a light training session to check fitness is all that is in store for Jagarinec’s successful squad. 

“Nothing too different, we’ll have a really light session on Tuesday night,” he said.

“Going to make sure that we’ve got a squad to pick from, these players have to be at least 80% fit on Tuesday night to be able to get picked for Wednesday night.”

“We’ve ticked our big trophy off, now the Fed Cup is there and it’s dangling and we want to take that too.”
