NPLW Round 11 Wrap

Woden-Weston 0 def. by Canberra FC 1 (Grace Gill 30’)

A third goal in two weeks from Grace Gill gave Canberra FC a 1-0 win in a tight encounter against Woden-Weston on Sunday afternoon.

Both sides struggled to create chances early as Canberra FC in particular were slow to get going, but that changed after a brilliant free kick from Gill changed the outlook of the game at the 30 minute mark.

Woden-Weston then looked to chase the game but were unable to find a breakthrough before the half-time interval.

The second half began in much the same fashion and continued as both sides made changes, Canberra FC to hold their lead and the hosts looking to chase it down.

But the visitors held on for a tenth consecutive win ahead of an important clash with the Canberra United Academy next weekend, while Woden-Weston will take on Belconnen United at McKellar.

Monaro Panthers 0 def. by Canberra United Academy 7 (Aoife Colvill (6), Laura Hughes)

The Canberra United Academy grabbed their seventh win of the season as six goals from Aoife Colvill pushed them to a 7-0 thumping of Monaro on the weekend.

Colvill got things moving early from the penalty spot after an infringement from the Panthers, and wasted no time continuing her charge as she scored again shortly after.

The Academy were unrelenting in their attack, and Colvill added another three goals before half-time to give the visitors a resounding 5-0 lead as the teams headed into the rooms.

It didn't end there though as the Academy were not finished, and Laura Hughes and Colvill both added a further goal in the second half to seal the 7-0 scoreline. That goal took Colvill to an impressive 20 already on the season, and the win leaves the Academy nine points behind Canberra FC and Belconnen ahead of a clash with the former next weekend.

Monaro meanwhile sit second bottom on six points, with a meeting next weekend against last-placed Tuggeranong United.

Tuggeranong United 0 def. by Gungahlin United 3 (Charlotte Lynch 7’, Melissa Bunker 33’, Manessah Humphries 77’)

A fast start from Gungahlin United at Kambah spurred them to a 3-0 win against Tuggeranong United and a spot in the top four.

Canberra Olympic Football Club 0 def. by Belconnen United Blue Devils 7 (Caitlin Munoz 13', 43', Ellie Raymond 26', Bronte Pyke 41', Samantha Price 60', Samantha Roff 68', Jessie Rasschaert 82')

A four-goal first-half featuring a brace from Caitlin Munoz helped Belconnen United to a thumping win over Canberra Olympic on Sunday.

Munoz opened the scoring just 13 minutes in, and 13 minutes later Ellie Raymond doubled the advantage for the visitors at O’Connor as they continued to control the game.

Olympic struggled to get into the game and fight back as United poured forward, and the five minutes before half time saw quickfire goals from Bronte Pyke and then Munoz again to settle the lead at four goals after 45 minutes.

United continued where they left off after the interval, and Samantha Price effectively put the game to bed with 30 minutes to play as she finished a good move. Eight minutes later Samantha Roff continued the rout and Jessie Rasschaert was on hand to round out the scoring with eight minutes to play.

The win leaves United tied at the top of the table with Canberra FC ahead of a clash with Woden-Weston next week, while Olympic will host Gungahlin United looking to wrestle back fourth spot.
