Woden-Weston 2 (Olaide Yinka-Kehinde 14’, 17’)def. by Canberra FC 3 (Thomas James 24’, 60’, Michael Mensah 77’)

Canberra FC completed a comeback from two goals down on Saturday as Michael Mensah scored inside the final 15 minutes to give them an important 3-2 win.

The visitors started well and had a couple of early corners as they looked to create chances, but it was the hosts who made it count early on.

Olaide Yinka-Kehinde netted after just 14 minutes and with Canberra FC reeling he scored again three minutes later to double the lead and turn the game on its head.

Bul Juach struck the post not long after as the Wanderers looked to use their momentum to extend the advantage however it was the visitors who struck next to cut the lead at the end of a frenetic opening 25 minutes as Thomas James scored his first of the afternoon.

The lead remained one goal at half-time and Canberra FC came out of the blocks well in the second half and drew level as James scored from a free-kick on the hour mark for his and the teams second.

Momentum was with Paul Macor’s men at this point and with 13 minutes left they made it count as Michael Mensah scored to put his side ahead and they held on to see out the game and take all three points.

Canberra FC now welcome Tuggeranong United to Deakin on Sunday, while the Wanderers are on the road to Griffith to face the Rhinos.

Tuggeranong United 1 (Aisosa Ihegie 69’) def. Monaro Panthers 0

Tuggeranong United took an important step to securing a finals berth as they finished one goal winners against a Monaro side reduced to 10 men for much of the second half.

Both sides started well and it was United who had the best chance of the match early, but Eddie Coggan rolled his effort past the post with an open goal begging.

Mitch Stevens’ side were aware of how important the match was after Belconnen’s win the night before, but could not make out a clear-cut chance as the visitors defended strongly.

The two teams went into the half time break locked goalless with Coggan’s effort the best chance of the first 45.

The contest changed dramatically just a few minutes into the second half though as Monaro were reduced to 10 men, Jason Baxter receiving a straight red card as he clattered Shane Murray in a challenge.

Despite being down a man Monaro continued to hold out well, but they could only keep United out for so long and a low drive from Aisosa Ihegie from the edge of the box with just over 20 minutes to go put the hosts into a much needed lead.

That turned out to be enough for Stevens’ team, and they saw out the rest of regulation time to finish 1-0 winners and jump back into third spot ahead of a massive final round.

United will visit Canberra FC at Deakin Stadium, while Monaro take on Gungahlin United at Googong.
