NPLW Catchup Wrap and Finals Week 1

Canberra United Academy 1 (Laura Hughes 5’) def. by Belconnen United 3 (Karen Clarke 62’, 85’, Michaela Day 70’)

Belconnen United wrapped up the regular season as they saw off the Canberra United Academy in a round 10 catchup clash on Saturday.

Laura Hughes got the Academy on the board inside just five minutes and the young side continued with the lead, taking the one-goal advantage into the break on the back of a strong first half.

But it was United who came out strong in the second stanza and 17 minutes in they took the lead courtesy of a good finish from Karen Clarke.

Eight minutes later they took the lead as Michaela Day curled home a free-kick, something that is almost becoming expected each week and Clarke wrapped it all up with five minutes left as she grabbed her second with a great strike.

After wrapping up the Premiership in Round 19 with a win over Woden-Weston, the result means that United finish the season 15 points clear of the second-placed Academy who they will face in the Qualifying Final this weekend.
