NPL2 Round 6 Preview

Brindabella Blues vs Narrabundah FC | Saturday, 18th May – 3pm @ Everlast Enclosed

After a week off the Blues are still searching for their first win and welcome the Bulls who have climbed off the foot of the table with a surprise win over high flying Wagga City. Narrabundah veteran Duncan Harrington, channeling his inner Jonjo Shelvey, whipped home a free-kick on the stroke of half time which proved to be the winner. Jeremy Butler’s men will be desperate to get off the mark and will see this as one of their best chances to do so, while Zalunardo’s charges will be confident of making this the beginning of a run as if jumping out of a pen in Pamplona.

Wagga City Wanderers v Southern Tablelands | Saturday, 18th May – 3pm @ Gissing Oval

Wagga City host the first Country NSW derby as the Steam-train pulls into town with the visit of Southern Tablelands United. The Wanderers will be looking to get over the disappointment of last week’s shock loss, and get their title tilt back on track, while the Steamers will see this as an opportunity to hit Wagga City while they are down. United are coming off their own disappointment though, losing at home 3-0 to a high flying ANU side. Two towns with a long football history meet here, so expect a bit of pepper from this one.

ANU FC v Weston Molonglo | Saturday, 18th May – 3pm @ Hawker Football Centre

ANU welcome Weston to Hawker Football Centre, in a meeting of two sides who have had some colourful clashes of late. Weston tasted defeat for the first time last week and as such dropped from third to fifth, while ANU’s routine win saw them trade places to hop into third. After a disappointingly slow start to the season, the Students are beginning to hit their straps, while Weston have collected just a solitary point from the last two matches. Two forward lines with tonnes of pace and a fast synthetic pitch, means there will be chances a plenty in this one.

Canberra White Eagles v Queanbeyan City | Saturday, 18th May – 3pm @ Woden Park

After a week away, the Eagles return to their stronghold Eyrie, hosting a familiar foe as Queanbeyan City visit for a classic derby. Queanbeyan have had a less than ideal start to their title defence, punctuated by last week’s 4-1 loss which also saw City’s Daniel Todoroski and Alex Lazarov shown red cards. White Eagles on the other hand maintained their prefect start to the season, with a deserved 1-0 win over Weston thanks to a Kompany-esque thunderbolt from Caleb Cullen-Rua. They have opened up a five-point lead and a win here against the reigning premiers would mean White Eagles could possibly extend their lead to eight, with only the current bottom two sides to play. With that big a lead, only Liverpool could bottle such a position, as surely Greame Plath’s men could not lose the title from here. Goran Josifovski will do everything he can to stop the Eagles soaring to new heights, while Dejan ‘Louganis’ Santrac and co. will have other ideas.
