NPL2: Eagles awaiting chance to go six points clear

White Eagles have the chance to push their lead over O’Connor Knights to six points as the latter watch on from the sidelines in round 15. A surprise loss for the Knights to Queanbeyan City last weekend saw them fall behind, but White Eagles will need to get past the charging Queanbeyan side as they look to force their way into the top four.

Graeme Plath’s ladder leaders put in a convincing performance to beat Weston-Molonglo 4-0 at Woden Park and Plath will be hoping for more of the same this time out. Should Eagles prevail, they will watch from the sidelines themselves next weekend as O’Connor seek to close the gap by taking on Brindabella, before a huge game in round 17 at Kaleen that could be the Premiership decider.

Weston now sit level on points with Queanbeyan City and will be involved in their own monster matchup, hosting third placed ANU at Woden Park with a view to shoring up their spot in the four. They are being hunted by Queanbeyan City and Wagga City and are searching for their first win since round 10 against a team that has scored 28 times in their past four matches.

Wins for Wagga City as they host Southern Tablelands and Queanbeyan would enable them to both pass Weston on the table, meaning the clash with ANU is massive for the Magpies with trips to Wagga Wagga and Goulburn still remaining and a visit from Narrabundah in between.

Elsewhere on the weekend, Narrabundah host Brindabella with the visitors looking for their second win of the season and Narrabundah seeking to stay clear of the bottom two. They currently reside just a point above Southern Tablelands and four above this weekend’s opponents and will be keen to bounce back from conceding 12 and not scoring in their past two matches.
