PS4 NPL: Woden-Weston Out to Derail Tigers Charge

PLAYSTATION 4 NATIONAL PREMIER LEAGUES: CANBERRA
MATCHDAY 10

League leaders Tigers FC will kick-off Matchday 10 of the PlayStation® 4 National Premier Leagues Canberra competition and will be out to increase their margin at the top of the table as they meet Woden-Weston FC in the Saturday evening match at Woden Park. A win for the Tigers would see them five points clear ahead of the Sunday afternoon matches taking place across the region.

Both the Tigers, and their opposition Woden-Weston FC, will have to back up from a potentially tricky set of Westfield FFA Cup fixtures as both were in action on Tuesday evening in the Quarter Finals. The plus for the visitors is that Stephen Domenici, leader of the race for the Golden Boot, and five-goal Daniel Barac, will be back from suspension having sat out the midweek cup tie with Capital League Weston-Molonglo FC.

Nearest challengers to the Tigers are Canberra Olympic and they travel to Gungahlin Enclosed to take on Gungahlin United on Sunday. The pitch at the Gungahlin venue has been described as ‘difficult’ in many quarters and Olympic know they will be in for a real test when the Gunners set out to down them. Olympic will enter the match off the back of a cup tie with Woden-Weston so the Gunners should be the fresher of the two teams.

Canberra FC, currently sitting in third place, make the journey to Queanbeyan and a match against Monaro Panthers at the Riverside Stadium. The Panthers recorded an exceptional 3-1 away win over Canberra Olympic on Matchday 9 and will be in buoyant mood as they look to take down FC. The visiting team’s Tuesday night cup clash with old rivals Belconnen United might also have an impact on the outcome but the Panthers will, for sure, be a tough nut to crack as they chase a top four place.

Speaking of the Blue Devils, Dean Ugrinic and his team will follow up from their Westfield FFA Cup exploits by taking on the CU Academy at Hawker Football Centre. After dropping points in a 1-1 draw with the FFA COE last Saturday night, the Blue Devils need a win to stay in touch with the leaders and they will be targeting a game against the improving Academy in order to make this happen. The youngsters from the Academy have been playing well in recent weeks but need to put together a complete ninety minutes to come out on top here.

After taking a point from a clash against Belconnen United, in a match that they will feel they should have won, the FFA COE travels to Kambah and a meeting with Tuggeranong United as they look to rediscover their early season form. After much promise, the young Centre of Excellence boys have stumbled in recent weeks but will look to get back to their best against a Tuggeranong side who need to start turning performance and promise into results if they are to have any aspirations of breaking into the top four before the end of the season.
