PS4 NPL Women's Round 2

Round 2 of the Playstation 4 National Premier League Women’s Capital Football kicks off on Sunday morning as the new season continues into another week.

Monaro Panthers will host Canberra FC at Riverside Stadium as part of the club’s 50th Anniversary celebration, with the match kicking off at 11am. The Panthers claimed a 2-0 victory over Canberra Olympic last weekend in a battle of the new sides thanks to Alicia Meuronen’s brace, and will look to make it a perfect 2-of-2 this weekend.

CFC meanwhile got off to a less than ideal start at Woden Park last Sunday, with Tuggeranong proving far too string in a 4-2 win. Mark Risteski will look to shore up his defence after Meg McLaughlin’s hat trick in that game opened up the game and this may well be a low scoring affair.

Tuggeranong United will welcome Belconnen United to Kambah with both sides looking to gain a perfect start from two matches. Tuggeranong’s afore-mentioned win last week will give them a lot of confidence heading into this weekend and also make sure Belconnen are wary of them as a threat.

The reigning Premiers came from behind to defeat Gungahlin last weekend and are slowly returning to full strength. Coach Antoni Jagarinec was forced to dig deep into his reserve players in that Round 1 win but should have a more senior squad to pick from this time out.

In the match of the Round, Gungahlin and Woden-Weston will both search for their first wins after narrow defeats in week one, with Gungahlin leading Belconnen for a decent chunk of the match before giving up two second-half goals to fall to a 2-1 defeat. The side will take encouragement from the way they played early but will need to display it for the full 90 this week.

Woden-Weston had a goal disallowed before been beaten at the death by Canberra United Academy last weekend and will be looking for their first points. Diego Elmoudawar admitted his side’s only issue had been the Academy’s superior fitness, and will be hoping that his side can hold their own in terms of footballing once more again this week. A strong display against the Gunners would give Woden-Weston a lot of positives to take forward.

The final match of the round will see Canberra Olympic host the Academy as Rob Scott’s side look to get off the mark. Olympic played well against Monaro last weekend and could consider the 2-0 score line not a true reflection of the match. However some struggles in pre-season against this weekend’s opponents could prove an ominous sign.

The Academy will look to build off last weekend’s win, their first since the 2015 season at Premier League level, and Isabella Barac’s late goal last weekend will have filled the young side with confidence. A hard running, fast-moving side, the Academy have the tools to cause troubles for Olympic at O’Connor.
