NPLW Round 10 Wrap

Monaro Panthers 0 def. by Gungahlin United 1 (Freyja Jacobson 89')

Gungahlin United kept themselves in touch with the top four thanks to a late Freyja Jacobson winner against Monaro on Sunday.

United looked to take control from the outset and did so, dominating the vast majority of play as Monaro chose to sit back and look to counter.

The visitors created plenty of chances but were unable to convert, while the Panthers looked to play the long ball to Darby Whiteley who sat higher up the pitch.

United continued to push though and found the winner in the dying minutes of regulation, as Jacobson fired home from the edge of the area into the bottom corner.

The win leaves United just two points out of the top four, while Monaro remain second bottom on six points.

Woden-Weston 2 (Cassia McGlashan 15', Bridgit Plummer 62')def. Tuggeranong United 1 (Kristy Helmers 77')

Woden-Weston arrested a four-match winless run with a 2-1 victory over Tuggeranong United in Round 10.

Cassia McGlashan got Woden-Weston off to a strong start as she put the ball in the back of the net after a quarter hour, but the game boiled down into a physical encounter with both sides looking for an edge.

No one could find that breakthrough before the half-time break, and the hosts maintained their one-goal lead heading into the sheds.

They came out on the attack though and 17 minutes in Bridgit Plummer doubled the advantage to put her side in a comfortable position with just under half an hour to play.

United fought back though, and when Kristy Helmers netted with just under 15 minutes to play it was game on.

The visitors were unable to pull any closer though, and the match finished 2-1 to pull Woden-Weston to within two points of Olympic in fourth, and leave Tuggeranong rooted to the bottom of the table.

Canberra Olympic 1 (Meg McLaughlin 72’) def. by Canberra FC 2 (Grace Gill 17’, 51’)

A brilliant double from Grace Gill helped Canberra FC to their ninth straight win with a 2-1 victory over Canberra Olympic at O’Connor.
