NPL2 title race set to come down to the wire

The NPL2 Premiership race is as tight as ever, with O’Connor Knights and Canberra White Eagles tied for points and goal difference at the top as a round 17 clash between the two looms large in the distance.

Both teams have won nine matches, drawn two and lost one all season, the only differences on their stat sheets being the additional three goals in both the for and against columns for the Knights.

When the two met in round eight it was a narrow 1-0 win for O’Connor that allowed them to draw level at the top before they pushed ahead in round 10 when ANU drew with the Eagles. That gap was reconciled on the weekend though, the Knights fighting out a 2-2 draw with Weston Molonglo before White Eagles hit Southern Tablelands for six on the Sunday afternoon in Goulburn to close the gap.

The possibility of an almost-title decider is upon us, although both teams have a tough stretch of matches approaching before they get to that weekend.

The run home |

O’Connor Knights: R14 v Queanbeyan City (H), R15 Bye, R16 v Brindabella (A), R17 v White Eagles (H), R18 v ANU (A)

Canberra White Eagles: R14 v Weston Molonglo (H), R15 v Queanbeyan City (A), R16 Bye, R17 v O’Connor (A), R18 v Brindabella (H)

As it stands though, ANU are not out of the title race either, just four points behind the two ladder leaders with 12 still on offer, possesingg a better goal difference and they have the chance to impact it regardless when they take on Knights in the final round.

Queanbeyan stand to make an impact on the title race given they take on both Knights and Eagles in the next fortnight and then a matchup with ANU the following week. 12 points off the lead currently the 2018 Premiers will be more focused on getting into the top four than the top two, residing three points behind fourth placed Weston Molonglo and eight off ANU in third, albeit with a game in hand on the latter.

This coming weekend could prove to be a pivotal one in shaping the title race, and on the other side of it the picture will be just that little bit clearer.
