For the first time in NPL1 history, the finals series will be split into two, as the top four and bottom four each take part in the 2020 NPL1 Championship Series. 

The 2020 NPL1 Championship Series will consist of round robin matches (teams finishing 1-4 on the premiership ladder will be in Group A and teams finishing 5-8 on the premiership ladder will be in Group B).

Premiership points will not carry over into the round robin series and matches will accumulate points in the same format as ordinary premiership matches (i.e. three points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a loss).

In the event of teams being equal at the conclusion of the round robin, the teams will be ranked in accordance with the ranking system ordinarily used for the premiership (refer to Section 2, Article 9 of the 2020 NPL Competition Regulations).

There will be no extra time or penalties played in the round robin matches.  

The top two teams from Group A will then progress to the 2020 NPL1 Grand Final, while the top two teams from Group B will progress to the Play Off. 

The NPL1 Grand Final will be played at Deakin Stadium on 26 September, with kick-off scheduled for 6pm, while the Play Off will be played the following day, with kick-off scheduled for 11:15am.
