Two more NPLW Players Going Abroad

Jade Brown has only ever played with Gungahlin United Football Club. But now, she’s counting down to not only leave her home club, but her home country.

The teenager has accepted a scholarship with East Central in Mississippi USA, set to jet off in early 2022.

“I’ve played with Gungahlin my whole life, so it will be a big change to go overseas but I think it will be very exciting,” she said.

Brown may be heading to the Junior College by herself but she will have the support of several other Capital Football NPLW players, who are also making the move overseas,

Teammate Brigitte Sander is moving to Concord University, in West Virginia, Athens in the next few weeks.

The fullback said it’s going to be really tough to leave a club who has been so welcoming but it was an opportunity she just couldn’t pass up.

“It’s going to be really sad, I started here when I was 15,” she said.

“I came from another club, Canberra United Academy (CUS), so I thought it was going to be really difficult because I’d been at CUA for 5 years.

“But Diego [Iglesias] was amazing, the girls were amazing, they always made me feel included, and it really did improve my football, I got more confident under Diego’s coaching.

“So I’ve been there about four years so I’m going to be devastated to leave but I have to look after my own future.”

While Sander will say goodbye to her team in early August, Brown will be able to see out the season in yellow and black.

And what better way to farewell Gunners than with some silverware.

“Winning would be amazing, we definitely have a really strong team to do it, if us girls have their heads in the game, we can definitely win, we just got to keep working for it I guess.”

The NPLW side will host Canberra Croatia FC in their Round 14 make up clash tonight. The game kicks off at 7pm at Gungahlin Enclosed Oval 2.
